I was reading online about sh and there diets. Well, l learnt not only do they eat bbs and such. But also mosquito larvae ! I got to looking up were to buy mosquito eggs and had no luck. But I did find a lot of good info on how to raise them yourself. Which Wouald be easy here in Alabama. I think we shouald of made it our State bird there so many and BIG! I also learnt that bloodworms are just mosquito larve also that's sold in stores. And they sell frozen larve to. Have you tried or use these for your ponies? Not as a primary food but a treat or secondary.

IMO, it would only be a "treat" food if fed the appropriate food to boost the nutrient value, especially the DHA component, same as enriching live brine shrimp.
As for buying the frozen, I doubt that they would have been "enriched" before freezing, so I would still prefer to stick with frozen mysis.
For people like me, weather is also a very limiting factor and I certainly wouldn't want to have an indoor culture.

Thank you ray jay, I will try setting some 5 gallon buckets out in the woods this summer to have some and try.

Thanks, the places and things we do huh? My wifes going to think I totally lost it when I start raising skeeters. Lol I might have to set up a tank with a fine screen top when I remove them from the buckets. A cheap yardsale tank or such will work. I read it wouald be easier to see and harvest the little buggers this way. And I can enrich them in this tank. Free. Fish food provided by my backyard!
