Most expensive Zoa/paly you have seen?

I don't buy zoas for the hype...I buy them
To grow out and frag and sell...great way of making money.
I recently blew $400 on a frag pack of about 25 different zoas 1p each(great deal around $950 worth if I re sold tem one by one).
About a month after I bought them the value has nearly trippled, and in a few more months I will be able to get my money back+like 5 times what I paid for the corals.

It's a great investment in my eyes, zoas row super fast in my tank and will probably fund it for a good while now.ive talked with people who fund their tanks with only the money that their zoanthids bring them.
I would totally buy that $800 frag with the money il be making from the frags right now.in a few months that $800 frag could turn into a $8,000 frag.

If you're dropping that money on zoas for looks....well....that's a whole different story.

the most i will pay for a polyp/frag, is between 50 and 100 dollars... and that too me is alot... i would never pay over 100 cash, or so, for one polyp...

i am adding some clementines in the near future... i LOVE the purple contrast with orange and the hardlined/bold pattern they have, simple or not... however, i am paying 60 a polyp, and getting two polyps... im considering paying 75 for one really nice utter chaos from someone i know, or slightly more for 2...

personally i jus love how they both look... but thats getting to the max of what i would pay regardless of funds...

I'm picking up some Clementines this weekend too. $70 for 2 polyps, so that would be the most I've spent, but I really like them and they're ridiculous online. Here's hoping they're quick growers, so I can do some trading and have a nice pretty colony in my tank. Good luck with yours! :)

Cherry sells them for $300 a pop, and they get snagged up. So $150 isn't too bad?... But still, fairly expensive. I'd say they take the cake for most expensive right now. I'd shell out 30-45 on a single polyp if I find I want it enough. $50 if it's insane... and won't melt.

I have never seen anyone selling a zoa/paly for $800 in my life. Red deivil people eaters are very cool zoas or palys whatever they are, but if someone tried to get me to pay $800 pp for anything I would probably kick them right square in the nuts, lol. I talked to a guy on another forum that was selling red devils for $125 pp and I thought that was crazy. But here is a pic of the red devils that he is selling.

The sad part these zoas have been around since Christ was a child. Thier just getting renamed 14,573,311.2 times

That's the truth, plain and simple.

Threads like this crack me up. None of these "New" polyps are new at all. The newbs have no idea how badly they are getting ripped off. The polyps posted in the thread for $800pp, not rare, and nothing special. 6 years ago you could buy a 250-1000 polyp colony of them for $25-$50 just like all the rest of the hyped polyps.

To all the new reefers, there is no such thing as a polyp worth more than $ 1 to $ 3 a piece. Personally, I'd never buy anythig less than a 10 polyp frag and I have never and would never pay more $ 15 to $ 20 for it. They charge these amounts because people fall for the hype of it being rare because that is what they were told. These polyps have been around and in the trade for years. The stories I could share from so many reefers I have spoken to who spent hundreds and some thousands of dollars of these photoshopped frags.......and they all died. :(

BubbaBoBobBrain, if I ever come across some from my friend's tank, I'll give them to you for free.

This insane pricing and naming of corals isn't just for zoas anymore. I'm starting to see Mushroom Corals being referred to as the "Holy Grail" or Super Ultra deep water blah blah blah..That's why I went FOWLR in my 180.

nobody really answered the question

90% of you basically stated what you would pay for a polyp

most expensive I have ever seen is tyree space monsters ~ $100 head
IV also seen sunny d's go for $70+ a head on the high end

Thank you. That information is nice to know. I think the problem with people in LFS, online dealers and even fellow hobbyists is that they are trying to get some compensation for their time and effort. I'm not defending unfair selling practices by any means. Just laying things out there. I myself am a noob just getting into this hobby and am somewhat shocked at the cost of some frags that are considered "rare"

Oh. And if you have any frags you want to send my way for a pico build for a few dollars, I'm game! :spin2:

Honestly, I'm not really sure if the people dissing names and prices of zoas are serious, or just having fun with these type of threads. I feel like it's a little bit of both. :spin2:

These are the most expensive palys I paid for . This picture is unedited and straight from a phone camera. under regular white light lol. but yea It's tdf purple orchid. Whats really weird is that these palys grow differently as they get bigger so I can literally see the progression of the lines and colors as they extend outward I have a whole colony at different stages of growth and, to be honest, This thing was worth every penny LOL

trying to get some compensation for their time and effort.

that's it right there, when being a hobby becomes a money making thing...

People pay the stupid insane prices for the next big hyped thing so that they can buy a bunch grow them as fast as they could resale asap before price goes down so that they can make up the money used to buy said HYPED polyp, make extra money to buy the next hyped coral, and continue the hype process and insane price craze.:wildone:

I once paid $75 for seven polyps of Sunny D and $50 for three heads of Armor of God paly. Doesn't touch some of the higher numbers, but I'm answering the question.... FWIW, I do buy three+ head frags, as long as they are connected as a single colony and have had at least a week to start to recover from being fragged.

purple hornets were like $350+ per polyp when they first came out, can get them for less than $10 each today. red hornets were $250ish, $10 today. captain americas went for over $200, $3-5 a polyp today. purple deaths were $150ish, $3 per polyp today. aog's were $20-40 per polyp, now they're like $1. yellow eclipse were going for $290ish for a bit, then they turned to $2-3, now they're renamed as dragonball z and going for $200 per polyp again. ppe's went for over $120, now they're like $10. orange envy went for $500 per polyp, now you can get them for like $5 per polyp.

It doesn't matter what the most expensive zoanthid you've ever seen is, just wait a bit and it'll be 1-10% the price, and either way chances are it's just some renamed bs in the first place like the ones in the OP pic that have been around for nearly a decade now.

Where can you get these prices? I've just never seen them that low end pricing
