Most expensive Zoa/paly you have seen?

The ideal for zoanthids in general would be min. of 10 to 15 heads per mini colonies sold on rocks or even plugs.
The price should be a fair price according to availability, yes, but in many cases the price of a small colony of 15 polyps should be probably half of what they charge for most popular polyps today or much less.
People need to realize that it is unacceptable to pay for less than 5 to 10 polyps per plug.

But...
The market is far gone now and that's not going to change anytime soon!

If many people could have access to threads like this they would probably wake up.
Or at least think about how their money has been sucked out fast on this game of cartoon names!

What would be a fair price in your opinion for zoas and palys??

For the ones you just posted....I don't know that I would want to waste the real estate in my tank on something so bland. I don't care how "rare" a polyp is, ugly and plain is still ugly and plain no matter what BS name it is given.

We have very few higher ends z/p's in asia. Do you know why? there are US buyers dropping cash on uncommon one just off the water. At the price it's going on in the states, prepare for crazier price coming ^_^

at least it is what i was told from a big wholesaler here.

no surprise , we be saying that for years no that with all this hyping, photoshopping, SUPER BLUE/ATTINIC pictures combined with super macro shots, don't surprised to see a regularity of 50-100 PP on so called newly discovered or new release polyps.:wildone::deadhorse:

That's because people slice them up to make a killing while reducing their survival rate.

The same goes for the recent chalice craze. Years back no one cared for them. Now micro frags are selling at insane prices. If anything, today's inflated prices makes them even less desirable then they were just a few years ago

Personally, I like the idea of people creating new designer corals to sell. It adds interest and excitement in the hobby, and may reduce the amount of wild corals being harvested.

That being said, I am a patient person and will thank the early adopters for paying through the nose so I can get these awesome corals a year or two from now!

I think you are a little confused on how these corals come to market. All 'designer' polyps are originally brought in from the ocean on rocks that are them sold/purchaed for relatively few dollars at the wholesale level. Someone then chops them up into 1 or 2 polyp frags and says they're designer or one of a kind.

No one creates a designer polyp and they all originally start in the ocean.

I love when people say "rare" Zoas or paly. The only time it's "rare"
Is the first day or couple days someone releases a zoa or renames it and everyone soils
Themselves then it becomes common. Everyone buys it and its forgotten about

Then a zoa that's been around since Christ was a child gets renamed and under different lighting and the cycle continues :smokin:

Or my all time favorite is when a store/person puts a thier name before the zoa thinking it will drive up the price
"Signature corals"

As always product is only worth what the buyer is willing to spend .

I love it when LFS sell any zoas 3-5 polyps of high end zoas for a flat 30 bucks. It's really funny though walking in a store trying to price them pp and it ends up being ridiculously high. Example would be the candy apple reds. The one LFS near me wants $30pp, but I bout mine from another LFS that sold them to me for $30 bucks and it had 4 polyps.

That's one of the proofs that they really overprice what they sell.
Many times they have zoas coming from the same source and paid the same price.
