Most interactive mantis?

In your experiences, which mantises are the most interactive? I might be able to make a 40 gal breeder home for one. Thanks.

For a smaller tank, a Smithii (AKA, what Tim the Supermantis is) is probably the best. For a larger tank, peacocks are probably best.

My G. platysoma (Note for usually being reclusive), my G. ternatensis, and one of my O. scyllarus. Actually, I now have 2 P. cilata spearers, and they are fearless, and come out quite often.

Hey!!! I don't want to hear it about your platysoma!!! Maybe once the summer comes around and he's in a higher traffic area (ATM he's about 5 feet off the floor, and the only traffic he sees (when he actually wants to venture out) is me and my room mate walking by. I think I"ll put him in the kitchen at home, so he can see stuff...

8 mantis tanks? I have only the one, a 10 gal, as it is quite small(1 1/2'). I became worried when it stayed in it's home. Now I understand they are normally night hunters. How long have you kept mantis and how big are they?

Mike,

They are not mostly night hunters. Most gonodactylids which are what most people have are diurnal with peaks of activity in the morning and evening. Given only natural photoperiods with gradual light on and off and they quickly settle into this pattern closing their burrow around sunset and opening at dawn. However, with artifcial, human lighting regimens, it is harder to predict their activity patterns.

I need to edit, I have 9 mantis shrimp tanks...(2 O. scyllarus, 1 G. ternatensis, 1 G. platysoma, 1 G. viridis, 2 P. cilata and 2 G. chiraga).

I usually turn my lights on off from 2-3, both am and pm. I work nights, sleep until 1 or 2, and they have adjusted to this easily enough.
The O. scyllarus are active whenever I am around, day or night and they could be out-and-about.

My G. Chiragra isnt very active, he hides in the rock work occasionally coming out to stretch his legs and look for a snail to eat. The G. Smithii is very active...hes been diggin around all of the rocks in the tank, swimmin around....hes constantly on the move

Interactive? LOL. I don't know if I would want it to be.

You don't want one that sits in it's cave all day either...

Anyways, it seems like the consensus is on either O. Scyllarus or G. Smithii. I prefer the color on the G. Smithii, but I like the size of O. Scyllarus.

I have included some information on this on my list. I would say that the most interactive are any of the Odontodactylus or Gonodactylus smithii. My personal favorite are the small Odontodactylus havanensis or brevirostris.
