Mounting Turbelle streams

G'day all,
Has anyone actually tried mounting their streams hidden directly into their liverock columns.
They seem to work well, but like most internal erquipment they look a bit ugly

Would it be secure enough with the usual cable ties etc??

Thedood,

First, [welcome]

Second, I think your answer can be found here

John,

I will show you a new toy when I get back. It was my idea and I am honored that it was made, a year later I get to play with my invention. It is a hand made piece of ceramic- designed to look like a piece of live rock, about the size of fiji show piece. It has a special coupling which holds the Stream pump and you simply integrate it in your rock work and the pump is nearly invisible after coralline and polyps overgrow the rock. The downside is we calculated the price yesterday and it is going to be about $67. realistically it is about the size of a 10lb rock so it isn't too bad. Though we are trying to shave off some of the hand labor in inserting the fittings and cutting them, it is unlikely the price will be cut by much though. I will show the pictures and hopefully get to bring one home.

Maybe you can help me. I will be in France all weekend visiting a zoo and some public aquaria as well the Tunze France offices. I may not be able to get here so easily this weekend to check in. Just please let people know why I can't answer.

Thanks Griss.

I would not put the pump anywhere you can't service it. It needs to be cleaned every few months, it can go as long as a year but for some reason most people don't understand Calcium KH saturation and interaction and think more is better. This results in shorter service life as the tight tolerances don't fare well with precipitation of Lime. Keep a KH of 10-12 and a Calcium of 400-450 and no problems. Remember a reef functions at 8KH and 380 Calcium.

thanks guys,
Id already seen that thread.
Im just about to fit two 6110s' to my 10ft tank, and it doesnt look like the ceramic placement will be ready down here in Australia anytime soon, so the next best thing would be actual liverock..no?
I'll work it out and see how it goes
thanks again

Thedood,

If you are still interested in the rock cover for the Tunze pumps in the future we will be offering the Tunze artifical rock cover when available through Perth Aquarium and Display Centre or one of our distributors. Please feel free to contact me for availabilty.

I would say it is simlar to the 7410 as it is only a difference in a few parts. I have a few 4 year old 7410 pumps and I have repaired some as old as 12 years. The current drive unit has only been out for 3 years but the coil and the inards are essentially unchanged. The pumps come apart to a great degree so if you need just the driver you can get it or just the motorblock, this way even a fairly major repair is not too much more than buying a new RIO or the like, most major parts are about $70- motor block, transformer, driver.
