Mouth disease? Would love advice

Unfortunately, I have very little experience with fish disease or treatment. I started a thread in the reef discussion forum, but some folks pointed me here. I apologize for the duplicate post, but hopefully you'll appreciate my desire to get quick info!

From the other thread;

Hey folks, looking for a little advice!

I've got a new convict tang, been here since last thursday. I thought i'd seen it eating, but I'm not sure. It very much looks like there is something that has invected or torn it's mouth.

I have it in a QT along with 4 other fish, all which were purchased from the same place at the same time. I've been slowly increasing the salinity from 1.020 to 1.024 over the last 4 days. All the other fish seem fine and continue to eat and swim around.

The tank temp is ~78-80 degrees. This fish mostly lays on the bottom of the tank, though does swim around a little. Nitrate is only ~ 5ppm, everything else is at zero.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and let me know if you need any more details!!!

I had a kole tang that had the same injured lip. Someone told me it happens to tangs sometimes in QT and when moved from QT to the display tank it will naturally go away. When I moved the tang to my display after QT it went away.

Unfortunately, in your case it doesn't look like the tang is taking the lip too well. How weird my koles lip was like that and he was swimming around like nothing happened and he was eating too. Good luck, hope the tang pulls through.

Unfortunately this fish didnt last 2 hours after the initial post, so I was considerably too late in noticing and repsonding to the problem. Thanks for your advice, though. Hopefully the other fish do better, but I'll have to keep an eye on them.

Sorry for your loss. When fish are lying on the bottom on their sides it's usually to late. But we always hope for best.
