l am movlng my 40g reef to 50g+20g SUmp. What's the best way to do thls? can l take 40g of water and add 30g of new water? ls thls too much for the corals and the flsh to take?

Shouldnt be a problem as long as your new water has all the same test results as the old and its same temp. Lets see what others add to this also

i just moved frm irvine ca.. to NM... 850 miles... i put the corals in 15 gal rubbermade tubs each one had a small seio ( i used a a/c-d/c converter in the car to run the pumps).. i put fish and coral together.. each time we stopped i had to double chk that nothing was touching.. i kept a temp gage in there and ran the a/c in the car... live sand and rock went into 5 gal buckets with lids... u can use wet news paper to keep wet.. i lost a big monti, and had two pieces that lost tissue but the rest of the tanks was fine..

i dont know anything about "pure water"?? i use a 6 stage frm "aqua safe" frm e-bay.. i love the unit and not too much $$$

How should l add my corals and flsh? 35G New water + 35G from the current tank. Should l take all the corals/flsh and put them ln a bucket and add them after l mlx the old water and the new water together? anyone has any ldea on how l should do thls?

Thanks ALL!

i would 1st mix the water and get moving from top to bottom.. and let it clear up... i didnt acclimate this time ( a bit scary, but it worked) it would have taken hours to do that.. i felt i didnt have that time left.. i tested the tank water and it was better then the buckets water..the temp was the same and p.h. was the same... so i added everything... i'm sure this isnt the ideal situation, but i didnt have a choice..

2 weeks... not very long... i had it set up for 6 years.. then moved... it was up 8 months at my last place... then i moved out of state.... i think my #1 advice for people looking to get a reef tank is.......be a home owner and dont move the tank!!!

My old tank has been set up for 2-3 months. The new one l'd just mlxed the salt yesterday. ^_^ l was thlnklng of taklng out all the corals/flsh and put them ln a bucket. then, l would transfer the sand+rocks and let that settle for a whlLe then l would slowly accLlmate the flsh/corals ln.

If you transfer water back and forth from new tank to old a little at a time[a few gallons] over the course of a few hours, it should get the parameters almost the same then you could just move them. I did this when i upgraded from a 54 to a 110, only i did it over the course of a week after the 110 had been running for a few months.
