Moved-Setting up the nano again

So I am setting up my tank again since we moved back. I've had the rock in a Homer bucket from Home Depot for a few weeks.

Any suggestions?

Can I just place it in the tank and let everything cycle?

Also, anyone have any sand for sale or free ?

I have a bucket of sand you can have. It needs to be rinsed but its yours if you come get it. I would rinse the rock off and cycle it.

Has the rock been cooking in the bucket or just sitting? If cooking get the sand ad rock in and let the tank cycle, if not rinse it well and then sand and rock in and let it cycle out.

I had a emergeny air pump in there but it recently died so it's just been sitting.

What should I rinse it with? How do you rinse sand?

As far as rinseing, The rock:
get a few uckets of RO water and start in 1 shake and swirl, then the next then the last just for good measure. The sand I put just a few pounds in a bucket and use a garden hose, with bucket slightly tilted to one side, use your hand to swirl around and mix etc. Do this til the water is clear, then tranfer it to a bucket of RO and then I lay it out to dry in the sun just for good measure. Maybe overkill

I hope to upgrade this spring because right now all of my extra funds are going into projects around the house.

It would be best to stick with some smaller fish, maybe a pair of occ. clowns, a fire fish, and a watchmen goby. gets a good range of colors and movement.

Find a nice friend or local reefstore that's willing to part with some "aged water" or saltwater from their tank. The water's chemistry is different than freshly mixed saltwater and is less caustic and will make the cycle shorter. If you clean the live sand then you will lose most if not all of the beneficial bacteria, so, you may want to add some biozyme, cycle, or biospira. If you have alot of dead stuff on the rocks you should manually remove that as well as it will only make an ammonia spike.
