Moving 210 - your suggestions

I have to move my new 210 gallon from the garage to the basement and down a flight of stairs. I have carried smaller tanks down with help but wondering if anyone had moved a large tank strapped to a dolly?

With a tank that size, it is infinitely easier to slide it down the stairs themselves. If they're not carpeted, you can lay scrap carpet under the tank.

i wouldnt slide it down the stairs or use a dolly.
my and my friend carried my 180 down the stairs, it it was pretty heavy.
i would go with 4 ppl and consider the use of suction cups

Seems that it is preferable to keep the tank horizontal if at all possible. If by dolly, you mean like an appliance dolly which would mean putting the tank up on its end, that would be my least preferential option. I agree with Jeff, don't really see any harm in a slow careful slide down the stairs, if you can handle the setting down / picking up at the top/bottom. Four people walking 700 lbs of glass down a narrow staircase sounds very difficult.

I moved mine with a furniture dolly with a strap. Definitely easier to move it down the stairs than up. -Steve

I'd use a piano board, which has straps to secure the tank. Plus, most of them are 6 feet long. So, it can accommodate large tanks and allows for nice leverage.

On a side note, I just had a 300 gallon Deep Dimension tank delivered by 2 people and we got it inside the house and down a flight of stairs with a landing and then another flight of stairs without any damage. The tank was padded with blankets and wrapped with plastic wrap before it was moved.
