Moving a 260

As the title says, I'm about to move a 260 in another month or so from a friends basement into mine.

He has a walkout patio door, so that won't be a big problem. I, on the other hand, do not.

Anyone have a any great ideas on how to move a 260 down some stairs? I thought about wrapping it in several blankets and foam and using an appliance dolly, but I don't think we could reach the handles...

Also thinking about just hiring movers to do it...

anyway of putting it on some sort of pallet? Its easier to lift, and then you can carefully slide it down the stairs. Hiring a mover would be a good option, as long as they assume liability if it is damaged.

Maybe wrap the tank in thick moving pads/blankets, and gently slide it down the stairs with a couple people below to control the decent? Just a thought.

I've read online there are special moving dolly's that can lay flat and 'slide' down stairs... might see if a moving company in Kansas City has them...

I have slid several large aquariums down stairs. Just make sure the guys on the lower end are capable of the job. Also a good anchor guy on the back is a great help. Just slowly slide her to the bottom and horse it back up to carry.

Did you wrap the aquarium in foam or a blanket at least?

It would be easy to slide down the stairs and easy to stand up once it gets to the bottom, but I'm not sure there is enough room to lay it down... hmmm....

I'm sure if I get it into my garage, a moving company wouldn't charge too much to take it the rest of the way.

I have a 265 and we slid it down my stairs on it's back, it was very easy to control the decent. My stairs are carpeted and the trim on the tank kept anything from getting damaged or sratched. We stood it on end at the bottom to avoid having to lift the bottom out for the top to clear the stairs.. if that makes sence.

Yeah that make sense.

I can stand it up at the bottom of the stairs, just not 100% sure if there is room to lay it down coming down the stairs...

I'll get a bunch of KC 'reefers' over, a cooler of beverages, and we'll figure something out!

I am glad to hear that others have slid tanks down stairs, gives me some hope.

Beverages, good friends and a 1/4 ton of glass, what weekends are made for!

Please take pictures, it will make retelling the story on Monday so much more entertaining.

Be carefull at the top of the stairs. You can point load the tank on the top tread.
I would suggest a piece of plywood, then 1" styrofoam attached to the side being slid.
