moving a tank in this weather?

I am looking at a tank this evening in chicago. If all goes well, I plan on buying it :) My truck driver (dad) asked about how the cold weather would effect the tank. I couldn't come up with anything negative, assuming its packed in correctly so that it wouldn't move and was supported.

Anyone have any suggestions or words of caution? TIA

I moved my whole tank from Oregon to Louisiana in 20* weather with no issues. Took 3 days and all the livestock survived so I think it should be good. Just wrap it up in some good size blankets or conforters.

Only suggestion would be, don't fill it up with water right away let it warm up first if its going to be exposed to cold air in the bed of a pick up.

good point vasil, let the tank acclimate when you get it into the house before you do any water filling.. also try to avoid any sudden shocks at all. if its very cold, stuff gets more brittle (glass and plastic frame) and the silicon gets a little bit less flexible.

I'm in the process of moving 2 tanks today and tomorrow. Just make sure not to knock the glass when it is ice cold as it is more brittle, and make sure to let it warm up to room temperature slowly.

Thanks for the advice. My biggest worry is the car ride. Sadly, I think the tank will be sitting empty until after Xmas.... although nothing is a better motivator/time maker than a new empty fish tank waiting to be filled...
