moving mushrooms

is there a way to move a mushroom to another rock to make a frag so i can fill in a hole i have in my tank? i already have a small rock and like 10 mushrooms but i dont know how to move them onto another rock if its even possible.:) any pointers would be good. thanks.

You could move the rock with all the shrooms where you want them to fill in your void. Or you can try and scrape the base of them off with a razer and place them where you want. You will have to place something over them to secure them until they attach.

I read through a good post recently where people use that Bridal Veil material. If you put the frag on a rock, and then loosely cover it with the veil material, the mushroom will eventually attach on to the rock. I would guess you could use a rubber band or some thread to tie the veil material around the rock, then untie it when the shroom is set. I bet you can get a piece at Walmarts sewing and fabric section.

I use my old fish nets that have seen better days, and just cut it apart. Or the Veil will work. You have to use rubber bands to hold the veil on the rock. Leave a little room so the frags arent getting crushed. They can float around in there, they will attach.

ok thanks for clearing that up i didnt understand it at first. now to get the mushroom off alls i do is cut it off with a razor or do i slice it off or just kinda pull it like a snail? how dose that part work.

Cut across the stem of the mushroom. This will enable the fragged mushroom to grow back where you cut it from and still have a cap (and partial stem) to mount elsewhere.

So if you cut at the stem (leaving a small base) the mushroom will attach and grow, and the stem will grow back also?

This is how you frag a shroom? I read on another thread how one person used a rubber band to hold the shroom in place across the cap, it split in two them two mushrooms grew back. So does that mean you can frag these anyway?

This probably isn't the best way, but I found out by accident if you have too high of a flow rate directed at one, the mushroom won't like it and will just let go of the rock on its own in roughly 24 hours or less. I inadvertently aimed a small 100 gph powerhead at two shrooms and the next morning they were both shriveled up getting blown around the tank. I used the fishnet idea to reattach them elsewhere and it worked out great.
