My gig is really healthy and the focus of my system, I have to move in a couple of weeks and want to move the nem into a basket with a rock for transit.
It is stuck to the tank glass at the moment, surrounded loosely by rubble, where it has always been. I really really don't want to damage it at all, So can i have your suggestions on how to get it off the glass with minimal risk of damage, at the moment I plan using a credit card to gently nudge the edges of the foot then slowly slide the card under over the course of 20 min or so.

please offer your ideas.

thanks
Adam

heard ice cube on the back of the tank works best. you can surround it with rocks so the anemone could move onto one if it just decides to move rather than let go.

a credit card should work as long as it's not maxed out :D

in all seriousness I think it's your best option.
gig foot is tough stuff.

Moving an anemone seems to be one of the most stressful things for them. If you can find a way to get the anemone to start to change its location on its own, there is less risk of damage/ injury. If you decide to move it manually, it should take at least 1 hour. I wish you luck!

drain the tank so the water level is just below its foot.
The top of it will feel the water as it sags down.
After a few hours the nem will release and fall into the water.

simply remove the piece of glass and install it on a new tank at the new locationand youll never have to take him off. haha

Ok I move on sunday, I want to put a bit of a sandbed back into my nem tank now that I am moving and it is becoming a species tank, plus I like the look.

I bought 60 pounds of caribsea ocean direct livesand, to act as the new bed, as I did not want any/minimal cycling, I will put my remaining rocks straight in following the move (it will only take 2 hours max) and then fill up the tank carefully using some old water/ some new.
I then plan to wait a couple of hours for stabilisation and water clearing and then I will put the nem in, leaving any fish out until the nem is settled and then only putting back my clowns after a few days.

Does this seem feasible to you guys?

I wouldnt wait a day or 2 before adding the clowns, but I have always been a believer that he clowns help the anemones settle in.. Different schools of thought....

I have moved my gigantea quite a few time like you have mentioned but usually using old dirty sand in my case. When swapping out a tank (or similar) I put the clowns in a big container with the anemone.. rock into another.. sand into another.. swap tanks (in my case).. put sand and rock back in.. Add OLD water ( and some new to replace what is in the bucket with clowns/anemone).. Turn on pumps.. Dirty sand/detritus flows and clouds the tank.. shut off pumps... let settle.. siphon out dirty water and detritus during a large water change before adding the anemone and clowns back into the system.

Good luck

What I have done is very similar to Rod's procedure, but I happened to use new sand. I planned on doing a water change, but ended up spilling a lot of water, and had to use the water change water to make up for the spilled water. (( this was with an LTA and Haddoni -- different tanks ))

As for removing the anemone, I used my finger (( with a glove on )), because for my Haddoni is wasn't in a spot for a credit card. Strongly suggest taking your sweet time and take breaks if it isn't working right away. I ended up putting my finger through the oral disc. It looked liked death for two days but ended up making a full recovery.

Cheers as well tod, I will take my time, I too have tried to rush a bta and tore it, when I took about an hour the next bta came off clean.
