Moving to North Port

My name is Bill and I am moving to North Port in about a week. I was hoping some one might be able to help me. Is this the closest club to North Port? And what stores are near by for supplies. I currently have a 180 gal tank which I'll be drilling to add a sump to and need to know if any place local provides check valves, ect. Thanks for any help

This club is mainly for Manatee, Sarasota and Charlotte county. The Tampa Bay reef club started down here, with no name or anything, just meeting at resturaunts and houses, got big, then kind of migrated up to Tampa Bay  So some of us who live down this way, tired of driving so far, thought up this club, and there it is, we are the closest to North Port. There are several folks from NP who often come to meetings. Some are in Venice, Sarasota, and Bradenton. Now Sotty(myakkareefer)? is the Prez. We meet at a different members house or LFS every month and also do field collecting trips. Tons of fun! Welcome, Steve.

Home Depot has all the check valves and plumbing, but there are several store in the area. I know Venice Pet Center on US 41 in South Venice. Lt34 lives down there in NP, maybe he will chime in. I think the best is up in Sarasota, maybe 25 or so miles away-Aquarium Arcitecture on Hillview just South of the Sarasota Memorial hospital.

Coyoteseven is also in North Port.

There was a move to get a Port Charlotte club going but I don't know if that ever got off the ground.

Btw,

Welcome to the area...Did someone say Prez?? Really I just consider myself the "Organizer" I still consider AGU the Grand PooBah..Maybe Coyoteseven will chime in, but I think he is comfortable in the Lounge these days and doesn't venture out much...

I'm in North Port. There are no local shops worth visiting. I go to Sarasota for anything other than basics. There is a place called Pet Owner's Warehouse, but, like I said, basics only.

Welcome, I'm also in North Port. There suppose to be a new store opening in South Venice, but right now I go to Sarasota. What ever you do, don't go to the store in North Port. ACROS is the nearest club. Lots of knowledge from these guys. There is a Home Depot in Port Charlotte, North Port, and Venice and a LOWES in Venice and Port Charlotte for any plumbing.

Thanks everyone looks like I'll try to get to one of the next meetings after I get moved in. This should be fun:) I am going to move an unused 90gal bring down 20 gal of water from my tank then move my corals and fish and another 20 gal of water hopefuly everything will survive. I should be able to make the drive within 24 hours. With the water from my current system I don't think I should have to much of a problem, If I do hopefullly someone might be able to hold some of my livestock for some frags. Look forward to meeting everyone. Bill
Steve, Field collecting trips sound like fun please keep me informed.

Bill,

What part of Pa, I moved a loaded 75 down from Philly so I can relate to your situation.

I have an almost empty 120 you could store stuff in. let me know if you need any help.

Welcome to North Port!

I haven't been on much lately, trying to control my 90g cyano farm. :lmao:

Oh yeah... and it seems like I've become the newest version of Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards. :D
