Hi, my name is David. I am new to the marine/reef/saltwater aquarium hobby. I am going to be getting a 100 Gallon tank and am going to set up a reef tank. I currently live in an apartment builing. My question is: when I move this November, how would I move my corals/fish without killing them since I have read that it takes anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to cycle a tank before it is safe to put livestock in it. I don't want to spend lots of money right away and then even more on livestock if they are going to die because I moved. Also, if I did just put them in seperate containers and had powerheads to make the water continuously move, would that work? I am almost seriously thinking of putting wheels on the stand and just rolling it out the door and having everything hooked up to batteries so that I don't kill them. Sorry that this is a long post for a newbie. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You didn't say how far your moving? If I knew I was going to move in less than a year, I would go with a bare bottom tank for now only so I didn't have to deal with the sand mess. That way when you go to move, it's one less thing to cause problems. If your moving somewhere close (within a few hours) put all your rock in a new rubbermaid trash can, bag up all your livestock (LFS may come in handy here for bags) and put them in an insulated cooler. Move all your water in another new trash can with a battery operated air stone, and if possible, try to have some new saltwater made up already at your new house waiting. At your new place, set up your tank, add water (new and old) and rock, sand if you want to this time, start your filter system up and float your livestock like you did when you first got them. You can use your new trash cans to make up some more new salt water to have on hand to do a few small water changes when needed over the next few days.

Thank you very much, I will probably only be moving withing 5 - 10 minutes, so it wo'nt be that far. I was going to do this a few years ago but I did not know about this site and the other ones no one would reply.
