I have a shallow 80 gallon rimless (48x24x16) with about 13" of water. Will 2 mp10's work on my tank?I was going to get a mp40 but i like the idea of two working with each other.

i have two mp10's running on mine 90, works great as well. Have them set up as master and slave anti sync. Works great on reef crest ans nutrient transport mode. As said previous more adjustment available with two mp10's than one mp40

2 mp40s are a much better option.

I had 2 mp10s on a 40g breeder and it was great but it would never been enough on anything too much larger.

I switched to tunze and haven't looked back.

of course two MP40 is a better option. The question was one MP40 or two MP10. Two MP10 are a better option than one MP40.

2 mp10's will push slightly less water than 1 mp40.

I still say mp40. Buy 1 now, the other when affordable.

I've learned, through the years, that cutting corners in this hobby is often more expensive than doing it right from the start.

I know the mp40 is much more powerful but i figured since my tank only has 13" of water that the mp10's would be sufficient.

Do you have experience with both setups?

On an 80 gallon tank the mp10s will have to be run at 100% the majority of the time. The noise will become unbearable for most. You will also have zero room for upgrade and growth because they will already be tapped out. The only option will be to add more pumps. 4 wireless mp10s will run nearly $1200! However, 2 mp40s will work now and down the road and cost less in long haul.

It doesn't matter that 2 mp40s wasn't a choice. The OP is setting up for long term failure by cutting corners. I still think tunze is the better option. They can be found used all day on here.

I had my single mp10 on a 52 flat back hex (48" long as well, wanted to play with it prior to setting up the nano I bought it for) and it was woefully inadequate. There wasn't much water movement at all on the opposite end. Even doubling it by throwing a second one on the opposite side would still have resulted in less than ideal flow.

If you ever want to grow SPS, or upgrade your tank in the future, go with the mp40.

Ok, had to make sure. 3/8" glass is kind of thin for the tank being a rimless one. I would have expected 1/2" glass. Either option will work but I would go for the MP40, you can always add more flow if needed. If this is SPS dominant than no doubt use the 40 and run it bare bottom, sand will be an issue with only 13" of water.

I would go one mp40. I have one on my 6ft tank and it has the capability to move a lot of water. I do need another to get the full wave and program effects though. With a smaller tank, it should easily be enough to do what you want. You can run it at whatever speed you want, fast enough to destroy your sand bed (like me), or slower like an mp10. Seeing how my friends 2 mp10's are, I don't think I would use them unless my tank was 3ft long or less. They are great for small tanks though.

The question was is one mp40 better than two mp10. Answer is NO. Of course two mp40 is better than two mp10. Rtparty. You very rude in your response. I did say two mp40 was a better option. Read the post. Have you ran two mp10 on similar set up. I have. Yes the mp10s run 80 to 100percent. But it is enough to create a wave that goes over my overflow in nutrient export mode. So you tell me enough or not. Go on vortech website. In that size tank you can have anything in the tank. Sps would be doable but on the low end for flow. Check it out. Funny thing about these forums is everyone has an opinion. To the OP two mp10 will be enough. To RTPARTY go have a beer and relax. Better option Rtparty if you did your research would be 3 mp10's. less Money than two mp40 and you could have two on opposite sides and one on the back wall. That is what I am saving up for.

And still less flow than 2 mp40's.
