MP40 and MP10 or two MP10's?

I recently upgraded from a 20L to a 40B and quickly realized my MP10 wouldn't cut it in the flow department. I would like to have a mixed tank with plenty of SPS in the future. Is getting the larger, noisier, and more expensive MP40 worth it? or can two MP10's WES on Sync/Antisync cut it for this application? Thanks!

I'm presently running two MP10's on either side of my 75g running a reef crest mode at 80%. Corals are doing quite nicely however the noise is definitely apparent when they ramp up toward that maximum. In a smaller tank, with a bigger vortech I'd imagine you could run it much slower to achieve good results with less noise. Two of them in the sync/antisync do make for some very pleasing flow patterns though.

I believe the MP40 is actuay quieter than the 10. I also think another 10 would be OK from my research, though never having one myself. I have two MP40's on the way for my 55 and can't wait.

Do you ever plan to upgrade to a larger tank? If so, the MP10 may not be strong enough simply due to the thicker glass. I'm not talking about flow, I'm talking about physically working do to glass thickness.

An mp40 is awesome in a 40b. I run one in my 40b anemone tank. Flow is great. You won't need to turn either pump up to maximum so both will run quieter and last longer.

I was leaning towards the MP40 initially but I had read some reviews about them being loud or the bearings giving out. Probably the 2 MP10's would be ok, but the combination of the 40 and the 10 would be ideal. Time to start pinching pennies!

You can always run a big pump slower, but you can't run a small pump faster :) Yeah, I know it isn't EXACTLY true, but I use it as a rule of thumb for most situations. Buy the MP40 and run it at 50% and it will have similar flow to a MP10 running 100% - but it will be MUCH quieter, run cooler, and last longer. It will also use less electricity for the same flow. Plus, if you decide to upgrade your tank later on (and who doesn't) you have a piece of equipment that can move with you - instead of a piece of equipment that is immediately obsolete.

I have two MP10's set to 80% max, running either lagoon or tidal surge mode. It's more than enough for my standard 75g tank.
