Mp40 fell off

Just as the title states, my mp40wes fell off and I would like to know what would cause this.

Came home last night and found the dry side on the floor and the wet side fell on my carpet anemone which thankfully is ok. I thought these are magnetic and could not come apart unless forced. They have been on my tank over 7 months now with no issue until this incident. Has this happened to anyone else?

If it is like the MP60 they are not a strong enough magnet to hold the two together reliably. My MP60 comes with a sticky hanger thing that you press on the tank and the rubber gasket between the dry side and glass hangs off of it. It then has a cord hanger that is another sticky thing with a zip tie that holds the cord up as well. Without those two "safety valves" the dry side would fall off. I assume the '40 is similar but I have never seen one.

So I recently a few months ago had to move my mp40 a little higher and I had to cut the zip tie to do it and I never re-connected it. Could this be the cause?

My experience with the vortech pumps is that as you approach each models maximum working glass thickness the ability of the pumps to stay in place with just magnetic attraction wanes. I have a tank with 3/8 inch glass and my MP10 will not stay put without using the hanger; my MP40 is fine however.

I can't speak to the MP40 but my MP60 came with 3 different thickness of rubber gasket that fits between the dry side and aquarium to accomodate varying thickness of tank glass.

ALWAYS use those sticky zip tie holder things. alsways. i had a wet side smash a hugh green birdnest. SALTY. and then the chance of the pump breaking on the way down

In the manual it says this can happen if your glass/acrylic is too thick. I say remove your rubber disc or drop down a size.

My tank is a Marineland reef ready 125g tank and I believe the glass thickness is 3/8". I got the zip ties back on, hopefully no more of this problem going forward.

never know what might cause it. if it disconnects again i would start worrying. but always se the zip ties. i think that glass is a little thicker i could be wrong.

I believe that Maine land is 3/8. My aqueon 150 is 3/8 and my mp40 holds up. I put mine on the thickest glass setting.
