MP40 or Tunze 6105?

Need some advice here. I'm currently building a 60 gallon (36 x 24 x 16) shallow reef tank and I'm debating on a couple of items for water circulation. Should I go with the Mp40 or a Tunze 6105?

I'm on a bit of a budget as well, so I'm inclined to go with the Tunze or other Tunze options as well. But the Mp40 is the beez kneez, so I'm stuck.

1x6105 wont work well ... its too narrow, and too strong for a 3 foot tank !

I would go with 2x6095 and a multi controller.

OR the MP40.

MP40 is the obvious better choice.

Unless you use the wider shroud which broadens the flow, and still retains it's practically silent operation. Either will work well, it depends on your desire and your tolerance to sound.

I do agree with using a couple of the 6095's though, to create more random current.

I'm looking at the wider flow model with controller. They come in at about $260 and some change. At that price, wouldn't I just be better off getting one MP40 as it would be cheaper?

SPS will love it.

you can find spots with less flow for softies.

basically, comes down to, saving room in tank ---- Vortech

or if you cant stand noise, then tunze ...

both are great pumps, just gotta see what fits your case and tank better :)

I've contemplated the same thing. The tank I'm setting up is 36x30x18 with a back right corner overflow/return. I just purchased 1 MP40 to run on the right side of the tank and I'm going to throw another powerhead (undecided) in the back left corner for some additional flow.

With that small of a footprint, take into consideration the amount of space the powerhead will take in the tank as well.

Noise

Noise

I love my Eco Tech but if you have it turned up to anything above 70% power it is loud enough to hear in the next room. My plan is to buy a second one so I can turn it down. The Tunze would be quieter but I personally have decided to stay away from power cords in the tank. I have been shocked twice and will never put anouther corded pump in any of my tanks if I can avoid it. Possibly buy 2 MP 10's??????

I thought about 2 MP10s but my glass thickness is 1/2", so they won't work.

The Tunze with the now included wider front shroud sure can. I had them side by each with an MP40w and the flow was very similar. The Tunze stuck out twice as far as the Vortech into the tank, the Vortech much further out the back. My Tunzes sit in the back corners and do not detract from any of the viewing sides of the tank. If using the narrower housing, the flow extends far further into a long tank than a vortech could, so it gives more options and flexibility. Yes, the con is larger footprtint but IMO everything is a pro....cheaper, quieter, pointable, 2 year warranty.
I prefer the Tunze for its complete silence mainly.

to ech there own i gfuess i had nothing but bad luck with tunze products especially the dam wave maker it sits in a box had pump replaced 3 times in it turbelles 2 times no more

There is a video on Tunze's site and they compare the vortech to one of their power heads. I can't remember which Tunze the video shows however. It's on the turbelle's catalog page. Anyone else see it?

To each their own, yes...neither pump is better than the other.

Thats odd you had so many problems with them :(, they are know for being reliable pumps. All the ones I have owned never had one and I have a couple dozen of different models

Every Tune product I have bought has been solid - granted, I only have 3 - but they all have been flawless.

I would go with a couple of Koralia 3's and a couple of Tunze 6055's with a 7095 controller. I would also consider 4 Tunze 6055's with the 7095 Multicontroller
