I bought a second hand Vortech pump and it 'seized' after a day.

I opened it up and found this (pump on the right).

Is it fixable? It looks like the ceramic has been baked onto the plastic back!!

Do I grind the ceramic deposit off the flat plastic end cap?
Do I get a new end cap? Where can I get a replacement?

and fwiw it's probably not your fault but this happens when the pin spacer is set too tight to the glass. You will likely need new bearings in the dry side too.

Common problems with them. good luck!

I have 3/4" glass and only used it for one day...

Should I bother grinding the built up ceramic on the plastic?

No, the back piece needs to be replaced. The magnets condition will likely be the determining factor if you replace or repair. That sucks.

Soak them in vinegar to clean them up. Take them completely apart and lets see a profile shot of the magnet. Be careful when handling the magnets that they aren't close enough to slap together, that would make for a bad finger day. Looking at the pic from this angle it looks like the magnet is ok, even after all of that.

This exact same thing happened to me... if it is fixable then I'll have an extra wetside! Let me know how you end up fixing it. If you can of course

The magnet works but it has a deep groove and hole in the middle.

Soaking the end cap in vinegar didn't work.

Where can I get just the end cap??

Edit: Hmm they don't appear to be there anymore. Give them a call tomorrow. They have excellent CS. You need more than just the back cover. This happens when the wetside main screw fails or something gets wedged in there. The magnet is likely fine even with the gouges.

They came out with a new wetside design that is compatible with that pump. It alleviates that problem. you may consider going with that instead.
