Mr Controversary is back at it :D Answer me This

All kidding aside, I think the part that curls my hair is knowing that he councils children.

Randy, your quiz made me feel depressed. I thought I was smart but now I am not sure!

I also found that part about the kids disturbing.
I really wish he took a different approach with the thread title and had a better attitude, as I thought few of his points were worth a discussion. Maybe I will take the plunge with all of you "fish geeks" over here and propose some of his points in a new thread. I mean that in that in a good way/not bad!

I think Randy hit the nail on the head.

He was not here to advance a discussion, he was here to play devils advocate to peoples opinions and argue for the sake of arguement.

There is certainly valid debate to be had about the pros and cons of skimming and systems that make use (or do not use) such devices.

I am sure many people here in the advanced forum would welcome such a discussion. There are a lot of advanced forum readers who clearly ignored this thread but would gladly join a"real" one.

I took the other quiz. I got a 42% on the'06 quiz (and a 62% on the '07 quiz). I guess that I'm improving every year! :)

I was pretty proud. I also got a 62% but didn't use pen or paper to work out some of the problems. I figure that would have certainly got me into the 70's. Randy, you definitely need to write a reef chemistry text book for a liberal arts style class. I would LOVE to teach from it. I always enjoyed chemistry throughout high school and college but nothing ever made it truly fun for me until I got to use it directly in my reef tanks. I think it would be the easiest and most fun way to teach chemistry to biology students.

Liberal arts style? Oh boy, chemistry with hugs.

Randy, I liked the quiz, there were some funny ones, IMO. For example, some of the giveaways had very silly answers that I found really funny...ie the seawater ppm question

Seriously, did he really think he could match wits with Randy about chemistry??? That's like debating economics with Alan Greenspan:lol:

I agree cward, of all the people he'd debate, he debated a chemist.

hope he didn't gave you much of a headache eh, randy? :D

I didnt use paper either and got 46% on the 2007 quiz...That was pretty tough :) some answers iu had no clue and just closed my eyes and clicked

Hey, that's not always a bad way to go! :D

I'm glad some folks appreciate the quizes. :)

FWIW, I wish I had time to write a reef chemistry book, but there are too many other things to do. I just got back from meeting with the FDA on one of my programs. I figure most of you would rather live longer, healthier lives than read a new reef chemistry book. :D

I took the other one and did a little better...54%! If i had my calculator handy i know i would have gotten a few more correct but oh well :) I appreciate them a lot but i also dont like them cause it makes me feel like i have no clue what i am doing with my tank LOL!

But Randy, the Reef Chemistry Book would make life seem a whole lot longer ... whether actually longer or not ;)

J/K ... couldn't be more techincal than Sorokin's book, which I own.
