To me I liked the look of the top to bottom plus I like not having any plumbing hanging off the back of the tank all the water falling noise in the stand.
You're right about that but also you will be affecting the integrity of the bottom pane of glass by driling your holes since the pane does not sit flush on the stand but its elevated so you have all the weight resting on the corners and edges.
True but for me its already done I'm actually thinking of cutting down the coast to coast and doing just 2 regular sized overflows and then drilling the center with a 1/2" holesaw for the return so i can cover it better.
Got my 20 long for my sump. Next need a return pump and heater and some acrylic to build my baffles. Will be making it rimless again like the last one I had I really liked the look.
