Mr. Uy's Zoanthid Overgrown Pump

Hey, guys...

I have a gigantic overflow box in my tank. I would like to see if I can get different color zoanthids to overgrow it, like the pump overgrown with green zoanthids in Mr. Uy's TOTM shot.

What's the best way to do this so I do not hurt the zoa's, and they grow the fastest to cover the box? Is superglue gel the only way? Also, do you think I need to discourage them from growing on the glass side of the box? Is a particular strain of zoa most suited to the task? And, can I do this to things that vibrate in the tank, like the tube to the biowheel?

Thanks!
Laurie

Use an exacto knife to scrape the zoanthids off the rock and try to take a little of the rock too. Then superglue it to the overflow using as little glue as possible. Or if you are very patient, you can just lean a favorite colony up agains the overflow and eventually they will attach themselves.

Not a bad idea Creetin!

What do you guys think the best mix of animals would be to attach to the box? Zoas, ricordea, anything else?

I have seen overflows covered in florida rics as well. Looks pretty sweet.

Post some pics of that I would love to see it!!! I want to do the same and cover my overflows with zoos. Right now I have anthelia doing that but it grows like a weed and I want to change it because it blocks light from my other corals.

i'd like to cover my overflow with the zoas in coralfarm's avatar. they are neat! what are they/where'd you get them coralfarm?

I dont have pics one guy that did have it dismantled his old tank.
He just got back in the hobby. It was a sweet thing to see, and he kept mostly sps so te rics did wel up high since they love light.
My next tank will be done like that and you can get florida rics to multiply fast.. I have seen zoa's i'll try to find pics.

Biogirl361,

Thanks for the compliment on my avatar. They are Protopalythoas or Zoanthid Gigantus or however they are classified now. The polyps are large and have the neon green slit mouth like PPE, RPE, Orange Envy, which are all in the same classification. I got them a couple years ago at a LFS. I have been calling them TieDyed PE, but have not submitted them to ZoaID or anything. I have only fragged them once because they just don't seem to want to grow. I started with about 30 polyps and still pretty much have the same amount now. Maybe someday they will take off and I can spread some around.
