the above two are considered perfect for a single beckett head, a iwaki MD 70 RLT would be better suited for two beckett heads, and a big body around and above MR3

Okay now how about some plumbing tips. I got the external pump and since my sump is a rubbermaid it is no problem to drill. What depth is best for the bulkhead?
Is there any place you wish you had a extra union or ball valve?
Does anyone know if the input on the skimmer is threaded or slip?
I would like to have all the plumbing ready when the skimmer gets here it is just going to take some planning.
Any other perfromance setup tips?

Hi Andy or anybody that can help me on this. I was cleaning my new beckett housing and I accidently drop and crack the part that screw and thighten the beckett. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. Can I possibly glue this back or am I pretty much screw and have to buy a new one. Can you please help me on this Andy and possibly, if I need a new one, can I send you this one back and maybe get a discount on the new one. Thanks.

NoSchwag, my sump is a 38g rubbermaid contanier. The water comes off the overflow and into my 10g fuge it spills over the fuge into the 38g tub. All of the equipment sits in the large tub and I have an auto top off that keeps the sumps level consistant. Why do you ask?

the "U-tube mod" is use to direct all incoming water directly at the mixing cylinder rather the mixing box

but in my opinion the MR-1 is too short for this mod, you need a nice long cylinder to allow the mixing to reach the top calmly,

I was more looking for plumbing tips. I talked to Andy today it looks like I am going to run all 1" plumbing on the intake side instead of 3/4". Even though the pump is 3/4 in/out. Where doe you guy get that fexible PVC from? I am guessing that would be handy and could keep my for using to many elbow.

i have a big bubble problem from my skimmer, could i mount a bucket in my sump to where the skimeer drains into that bucket then into my sump? I guess i would put some live rock or something in the bucket to help break up some bubbles. tell me what can i do.
ps- i already have some baffles, and dont think i could add any right now so thats not really an option for me.

if you can't find flex tubing (use pvc) you can order here

all other parts should be bough when you get the skimmer, set it and decide which parts you need for that particular pluming job
use 1" all around, bigger is better in this area, less restriction, but not too big for it to become a problem
1.5" is better but 1" is more manageable, a rule of thumb is to always double or at least increase one size over pump input and output, and never restrict on the input, only on the output
best tip of them all about pluming, is keeping things "simple" the more connections, here and there only add cost and problems

Yeah this skimmer gives off a ton of microbubbles with the pressure rated pump I use (much more then my asm g3.)
I actually broke my 30 gal breeder sump this week.

I had to use the 38 gal for a temporary sump. To tell you the truth I had to run my return with no skimmer because of the amount of bubbles in my tank. It literally fogged the tank out. I tried the "U" tube but it made my water very turbulent and was hard to dial in the skimmer, plus it still spit out microbubbles.
I ended up getting a 40 breeder and used it as a sump. I researched posts from people that use becketts and I came up with a sump/baffle design that spits out close to no microbubbles into my display.
I use no filter sock and have a pcx-55 as a return pump.

Here it is..
My water comes into the tank on the far right of the sump. This is where my skimmer pickup is. The baffles here are pretty close together separating most of the bubbles from the first and second chamber. My skimmer pump and my return pump are the same pump. This lets me skim most of the water in my tank 9X's an hour. This is also the compartment that will hold my temp probe. By keeping my probe in this section, my temp controller keeps my tanks temp. very stable
The second chamber is where my skimmer dumps, away from the 3rd compartment. This area is big and wide and stops the micro bubbles. I keep my heater in here.
The baffles between the second and third compartment are wider, so they slow the water down and keep the micro bubbles back.
The third compartment is my return and my auto top-off section.
My skimmer is modded with the pump output running straight in to my beckett. There are no 90's restricting my flow I also have a riser on my beckett housing. I have no idea what this does, but I hear from the smart people that it helps
