Bryan,

Good point. I meant to say that it was pointless trying to test the skimmers performance with fresh water.

Andy told me to run nothing smaller than the pcx-40 so I will probably get the pcx-55 since it is only $15 more in the package deal on MRC's site, im sure i will be happier that way, I think I may need to run one of his compact calc reactors to fit it into my stand with this skimmer. I just cut out the center shelf and drawer front to make the faux drawer out of the old drawer and am about to route my edges. Then I am ordering my skimmer combo... Maybe I'll finally get around to finishing this system so I can get water in it in the next month.

Ok well I heard someone say at a LFS say that becketts are a pain in the *** to clean/maintain. He told me a lot of tuning was required. I am wondeirng what kind of tuning, and how often does it need to be done. Also the LFS said something about cleaning becketts. I dont know exactly what, but do you think you guys can give me a run through on the proper way to clean it.

ive never cleaned a mrc skimmer but previous beckett skimmers of similar design are a breeze to clean, they come apart and you just wipe out the gunk or use a bottle brush or something similar to get the cup clean and clean out the drain fitting from the cup the beckett comes apart and you just clean it out like you would an impeller or something like that

Hi ninja

cleaning and maintaining is the same like any other skimmer,

if plum correctly the setting you set will stay

the people that mention a lot of tuning are confuse by control giving to the user :D

want to have total control of air input, water level, can be done without any mods

that is the part they called too much tuning, as oppose to a brand like euro-reef, where not much control is giving, and if you want it them you have to add it to the skimmer bia mods

I want my control and love to tune my skimmer to what I want, be it any level of dark or light skimate, ect.

again MRC are not units for people that are pluming and control challenge :D

good luck,

sam

I remember when the LFS said something about having a 20 minute period, I forgot when, but sometime you had to wait for your pump to do something before you could clean it. Sorry this is a little vague, couldn't remember exactly what he said. So you just need to tune the skimmer once, and once your satisfied you really wont need to touch it except when you clean it?

ninja you will have to replace the cotton, maybe often (unless you make one of those things)

clean the beckett once in awhile, takes about 5 min.

clean the collection cup.

clean the skimmer pump every once in awhile.

LOL LOL LOL
i'm glad i never listened to those people i just went with my gut & im glad i did.
becketts are awesome.

PM's are very nice also (i hear), don't know about ETSS.

I chose MRC because of the customer service, and price.

because u can upgrade an MRC :)
add second beckett
add extension to neck
awesome customer service.

:) My sentiments exactly. No material is skimped on. 100 percent all the way to the collection cup.

I know I've seen it somewhere in this post but I can't find it now so I'll ask it again. I'm going to move my MR-2, powered by a PanWorld 150PS, outside of my sump. My sump is drilled for the bulkhead already for the pump suction. How high up should I elevate my MR-2 compared to the water level in the sump ? Do I just want it high enough so that the drain outlet pipe dose'nt have to go up at any point ? (meaning that it would just drain straight across and over the top and into the sump) Also how long of a run of pipe can I have for the drain ? (pretty much asking how far away from the sump can I have the skimmer body)

Here is my new toy still waiting on the gen-x external but a local reefer let me borrow his Mag-12. So I am at least getting it going. Why didn't you guys tell my how quiet these skimmers are my seaclone is louder than the MR-1!
Anyway here is a pic
