Hello people. I'm debating on whether to get an MRC-2 or 3 for a 120 gal I'm building, but I have some questions. I just bought an Iwaki MD55RLT, so I'm assuming that one injector would be ideal, correct? Also, is the quick release nice to have, or is it not that big of a deal? I know the MRC-2 is probably enough for a 120, but the MRC-3 would give more contact time for dry skimming, and I plan on DIY'ing a wet neck for it too. Any opinions on what I should get?

Go with the MR-3, ensure it is dual injector capable. Even if you do not want a second injector now, you may need it in the future. My experiance with the quick release is that it really is not needed and tends to leak if not tightened very tight. I clean my skimmer without removing the quick release and have no problem getting it all clean. You will have to clean your skimmer 2-3 times per week, the neck gets very dirty. Post pics of your wet neck when you finish it, sounds like an interesting mod.

well I think that I found the reason for my mr2 to be inconsistent. . there was a bunch of salt residue built up in the inner portion of the air inlet. I guess that sometimes the air could force it's way through, which would let it work for awhile, but then some more would roll it's way in.

hey everyone i was wondering if anyone has any problems priming their pums to get them started after cleaning the pump??? i have been haveing a hell of a time and its driving me nuts. i have a mr1 with a pcx 30 - or 40 and every time i shut down my skimmer it takes hours to get it running agin.. any one have any tips or advice on this?? i;m about ready to get ride of this skimmer becouse of this problem..dab tooo cause i love the skimmer just don't love trying to get it started..oh by the way i have the pump external over my sump.

myth, so your pump is sitting above the water line of the sump? Are you trying to pull water to the pump? Sounds like this might be your problem.

you have to burp your pump ,,take a piece of air line tubing and stick it throguh the bulck head into the intake of the pump ,,suck out the air or blow in on it dont remenber what it is blow in or suck out ,,any way this should help you get you pump runiing faster ,,just have top get the air pocket out of it

yes my pump sits above the water line how do i fix this problem i dont have a drilled tank and at this point i nedd to get the pump started this is a new tank and its been up since before xmas with no skimmer. i just got out of hospital and i cant move around to good right now.. thanks

You don't have to drill the tank. You can use the 'up and over' method to set up the pump.

Pump on the floor, intake goes up, over and in the sump, with a 'T' and threaded cap on top (on the side directly above the intake of the pump, not on the pipe coming directly out of the sump) so you can prime the pump. Then just run the output as normal.

To prime the pump, just remove the threaded cap, pour water in until full up to the T, screw in threaded cap good, and fire it up.

I have a question. Is there any difference between an MRC-3 that is a couple years old, and a new one? I know the injectors are different, but the new ones can easily replace those, right? Are there any other differences?

Depends how old the skimmer is...Cosmetic differences....build differences--slightly...we use in house CNC to cut all the pieces now and there are grooves for the tube to sit in on the skimmer boxes to give better/stronger joints....

If the skimmer is older than 2 years, it was probably 1/8" acrylic on the tube and 1/4" on the flanges...new builds are 1/4" tube and 3/8" flanges and boxes. New skimmers use threaded gate valves, older models slip fit. Mostly cosmetic...other than the injectors.

Just got my mrc-2 last night, I didn't read all # of pages of this thread but whats the best way to use in it in my sump?

thanks

I'm going to try and run one of my overflow lines directly into the skimmer and see what that does. I'm still messing around with different adjustments.

Any luck with this yet? :)

MRC 7

MRC 7

Anybody with a MRC 7? I am thinking of a MRC 7 for my 465 gallon reef or a PM Bullett XL3? Any opinions?

Cool:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:

I tried injecting the output of a Mag 5 pump in to the spare injector port, which was sitting in the overflow container.

Did not work well lots of back pressure.

My theory was that i could increase the organics in the skimmer mixing chamber, i would skimm better, but it did not work :(
