I wanted to post some pics of my new plumbing. Here is what I mean by smooth bend. I am really liking spa-flex.

ok, so i used the weld on and did about 3-4 layers and i've plugged it in. No leaks from what i can see. Skimmer seems to be running fine. I placed it in sump. Do i use the gate valve and keep the bubble level about 2 in. from the top of the neck?

Where do you guys w/MR-3 keep your water level? i'm having a lil trouble adjusting. I opened the air thingy on the side of the injector all the way and put my water level about 10-12" above the black box. when i went w/putting th bubbles 2" from the top it just started to overflow.

Chances are you won't be able to run the air all the way open. Set your water level with the air off. Then open it 2 full turns and see what that does. If it doesn't start to overflow, leave it and let it run like that for awhile. If it does, drop your water level a little bit.

After each adjustment, let the skimmer settle in before adjusting anything again.

I run my MR3 with the water level at or just below the black box, but i have 2 injectors running. I found that with only one running around 3-4 inches above the box seemed to work OK

wait, so i don't understand... everyone using a tee and cap is experiencing the little geiser effect from the hole drilled in the cap? if i lengthened the pipe leading up to the cap from the tee, would this make any difference? if i just plugged the hole, would that increase my backpressure again. defeating the purpose?

If you plugged the hole, you would defeat the purpose of said configuration as you would in fact be creating a siphon and yes, you would get excessive backpressure initially, but once all the air has been forced out of the skimmer, then you will have a full siphon going and this makes it harder to adjust the skimmer.

Hi guys, I am looking into getting a Calcium Reactor for my 180g SPS tank. What is your experience with the CR-2 Dual chamber from MRC? Is it easy to setup? Is $200 a good deal for a used one?

What does it include?
I have one and love it, Its well built, and i have not once had a problem with it the year that i have owned it.
Thats what made me think of them when i was upgrading skimmers.

The $200 deal include the calcium reactor only. It is selling $260 in the MRC website.

I heard about the MRC reactor prone to water leak, but I have my MR2 and I love it.

Hey microbubbles, for that problem, I would simply extend the pipe about 3" or 4", if you are using 1.25" pipe, and your problem should be handled, also, you can also probably raise how far submerged the pipe is in the water on the outlet of the skimmer. That should also alleviate the problem, although I think the 3" to 4" extension should solve your problem.

Any of you guys running the recirc. models? Are they worth the extra $$$?

I have been running a recirculating beckett for a couple of weeks now. I'm running it on a 210/45 gal. system with a total water volume of around 400 gal. This system is heavily stocked. I was running an MR-2 before and I was having some cyano problems in the 45gal. Since hooking up the recir. beckett, my cyano has pretty much disappeared.

Here is the skimmer.

Right now, I am feeding it with a PCX 55 and running a GRI 520 on the recirculation loop. I can't really say it is pulling more volume than the MR-2, but it seems to be a more concentrated skimmate.

I'm going to try and run one of my overflow lines directly into the skimmer and see what that does. I'm still messing around with different adjustments.

So far, i'm pretty impressed with this skimmer.
