quick question... what are the benefits of the second injector on the mr2 skimmer? thanks!

I feel none unless you are running 2 pumps.

With 2 injectors and 1 pump, you are still moving the same amount of water thru the becket. The only difference is you can pump more air thru it.

I don't know anyone who runs their air valve opened all the way as it is, why would you need 2.

Kinda what I was thinking.....But would the HD55 be enough for two injectors?.......uses 100 wattts less (lower elec. bills)

I thought you said in the previous post you were getting one injector and the Blueline 70, that's why I recommend the valve to regulate the flow until you added the second. As RGibson said the 55 will only run one.

HELP Planning on MRC CR-5

HELP Planning on MRC CR-5

Hey Guys need a little help.
So i'm thinking of purchasing the cr-5 calcium reactor and was wondering if the hd pump has any calcium build up problems. Also is there anything that i should know before getting it? It will be my first reactor and i have no idea how to set it up, so any advice will be appreciated. i'm planning on getting the spraybar upgrade(worth it?) and package 7 w/o the CO2 bottle so i can get a 10lb one locally. Advice please, and Thanks.

two more questions. Is the waste container worth it for my mrc-3? Also, should i add a second injector?

Yea I know I was just seeing if I could save a little money on electric bill ....quess not. Thanks

I am using a dual-MR3 w/ a Blueline HD70, I love it. As far as the waste container, check NoSchwag's post back on page 27. He posts a link in response to my question concerning a DIY waste container using a 5 gal bucket and a toilet float valve. I am in the process of building one now.

Calcium Reactor

Calcium Reactor

CR users, whatdo you have to control the effluent drip from your reactor? I have a needle valve with 2 dials, but can never get a consistent drip rate from it. What are you using?
Oh, i'm feeding the reactor from a mj1200.

I put a JG valve on the end of mine. Just opened the supplied valve and then adjust drip rate with the JG valve.

Posting this again b/c i think this thread gets a lot of replies and many different subjects at one time.

Tagging along.
I'm considering a mrc calcium reactor with a spraybar and blueline pump upgrade. I am wondering how people like this setup. Per Andy, Ithe blueline pump will suction water from the sump so I would not need a feed pump. I really like this idea. It is along the same lines as the MTC procal reactor.

I am running a BL-55 on 2 injectors on a MR-3...It is enough to drive two becketts...but it depends on the tank size and feeding habits.

Andy, how do you come to the ratings for you skimmers?

We use real world settings...all of our ratings are based on actual tank size customers have used the skimmers on...and in some cases the ratings are lower than what has been used. I, for example, have used a single beckett MR-2 with a BL-70 on a 500 gallon system....I wouldn't recommend that to everyone/anyone, but it has been done.

Andy tell BermyBoi about the benefits of two injectors.

I have a CR-6 with the spraybar --

This has been a great addition to my tank and works well. The one I have has the Iwaki 20RLT pump not the BL --

Still works well once you prime the line you are good to go.

john37 -- make sure you get the probe holder and the PH Controller -- makes life very easy -- I haven't had any Ca Buildup issues.

One last question about these skimmers before i make my purchase this week... for the Mr2 skimmer, what would be the best cost effective pump to run... ive got mag pumps running returns on some of my tanks, but was wondering is there an alternative that doesnt consumer lots of eletricty but still puts out a good flow? thanks!!

The GenX pcx 40 and 55 pumps are good economical choices for that skimmer. The 55 will consume ~ 70 more watts but will also work better due to the higher pressure created.

I am getting ready to setup the MRC dual Nano. What is the spraybar. and can I add the probe holder or do I need to order a new lid with a probe holer already in it?

The nano does not have the spraybar option that I can find -- Here is a pic of the one that I have

CCR-645.jpg

The spraybar is in the primary chamber on the right which distributes CO2 equally through the media.

The probe Holder is the white thing in the first pic that I posted -- you can see the probe coming out of it -- it is separate from the lid -- you simply attach it to the tubing coming out of the primary chamber going to the secondary chamber -- This allows you to more accurately control the consumption of the media in the reactor.
