For those making air filters..

1. What size is the threaded part of the filter that is on there originally?

2. When you guys say "carbon" do you mean the black carbon pellets, or the carbon pads?? <-- most likely a stupid question.

Hi,

1. air gate valve is 1/4"

2. as long as air pases through the carbon, it will do, any kind

Can someone please post some detailed photos of this Air modification. Specially the components.
Thanks!

Andy which pump will run a single beckett head better.

GenX PCX40

or

GenX PCX55hp

What is the head loss through a beckett does anyone know?

StoneRhino, on Andy's site, the PCX55 is recommended as the better pump, for the MR-2 and MR-3 at least. The PCX55 handles pressure better than the 40, or atleast that is the way I understand it.

Now, on an MR-1, probably too much pump and you'll need to step down the gph because of the smaller diameter skimmer.

I saw on his site that the PCX55hp is the recommened pump. Just wondering why?

The difference between the two pumps is that the 40 has 10 psi and the 55 has 11.3 psi. But there is a 200 gallon per hour at zero head between them with the 40 being the winner.

I bought a PCX55 to replace my PCX40 running a old MRC2 I thought there would be a big difference between the pumps I have not changed the pumps yet but I was just wondering how much of a difference it is going to make?

If the difference is not noticeable then I will just take the PCX55 back.

The thing thats killing me is that the 40 has more GPH up to 16 feet of head. Then the 55 decreases slower than the 40 in GPH loss do to head after 16 feet.

There is a flow graph on the pump box. With all the data.

Does a beckett head have more the 16 feet of head pressure loss?

If it dosen't then the 40 would be better according to the pump box that the PCX55 comes in.

I am sure somebody can clear this up for me!!

I think what makes the difference between the 2 pump is the psi they produce. A beckett needs a pressure pump to work best and i'd imagine that the higher the psi the pump creates, the better. Good question though, and i'm interested in hearing the answer as well.

I think Andy is away for thanksgiving, so you may not hear from him right away.

will put up a pic tomorrow

StoneRhino, Ereefic got it, the more psi the pump can handle to an extend will allow you to inject more air while keeping fine bubble production

Cool just didn't make any sense in my mind. My head tells me the 40 out performs the 55 untill 16 feet of backpressure. Thats why I asked.

This has probably been answered in the marathon thread but I must ask anyway, I have an MR2 skimmer and was wanting to run ozone and was wondering if the MR2 is ozone safe or should I use a junk skimmer that I have as an ozone reactor. If there are reefers that are using ozone with their MR skimmer how are you running the water outlet through carbon to remove the excess ozone?

heres my mr2-r2 skimmer. al i got in the tank is rocks and 3 corals and umm some snails. so theres not alot of poop yet. im suprised how much junk its pulled out.

Sammie, yes you can run ozone with the MR-2. Others will have to fill you in on what you'll need and how to set it up. I don't run it.

MDM31, Nice!! My MR-4R should be shipping next week. :D

Memo,

here is a better pic,

2" pipe with cap tap and connection

inside, from left to right

(open) floss --> carbon --> floss (cap)

taps are 1/4"

if you have any ? just shoot our way,

Here is my air intake mod. It is a 3/4" coupler packed with cotton->carbon->cotton. It cost less than a dollar at Lowes.

My MR-1 has just got going I thought I would post some pics.
So when is this break in period going to get over?

I heard of wet skim and dry skim how about SOLID skim. There is like a half inch of solid crap built up in the cup in 3 days.
