How well does it need to seal?

I was thinking 1" (or whatever size a ping pong ball is, probably about that) with caps. Putting a hole in each cap, liquid enters hole floats ball to other cap and seals hole. I'm figuring maybe even use a pvc coupling as the top end that the ball can seal up with and put a section of pipe with carbon in it above this to keep the stink factor lower.
 
I don't know how well it seals, but I imagine it would be air tight. It would definitely be enough to cut the air flow down to a level where there wouldn't be any more skimmate produced. Your idea would work too, I'm sure. The carbon is a good idea, I'll have to do that too :)
 
I set up my MR6 last week and this past weekend I almost bought a toilet flapper to set up an auto shut-off. But I'm glad I didn't because the ping pong ball idea would work much better than the flapper if your going to run ozone. As p4ck37p1mp said you could connect the top hole to air line running to a carbon filter to absorb risidual ozone as well as stink.... I ran ozone yesterday for a couple of hours without any carbon and it wasn't a good idea. It made a lot more foam on my brand new salt mix with no livestock though.
 
Hey guys I have a few questions. I just set up my new MR2 and when I run the pump I get A LOT of bubbles in the clear becket injector housing. Now after looking at countless pictures that you guys have posted with injectors that are filled with crystal clear water I am thinking that something is wrong. When the air valve is shut off there are no bubbles in the housing but as soon as I open the air valve just a little bit I get a flood of bubbles and sprayed water coming from the top and bottom of the becket valve. Also when breaking in the skimmer I am not quite sure what the process is. When I set the water level in the skimmer with the pump on do I do it with the air valve closed or open? How high should I raise the water level in the skimmer in order to break it in? I have the skimmer running outside and over the sump if it makes a difference. I am a gen-x pcx55 pump. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I can't remember what the PVC fittings were, but if you take a ping-pong ball and go to HD you can find some kind of adaptors/reducters that would support the ball and allow an upward motion to CUT the air release from the container.
 
Now my next question. How does this look as far as the bubbles
go ? I'm still not getting much skimmate, any more tips?

Just got my MRC-2 quick release with the Gen x 55. How do I use this thing to its top performance. I have two drain lines coming off my overflow that I want to run directly into my skimmer, its 1.5" pvc, how do I do this?

Also, should I use it in my skimmer or not, I want the best performance? I'm running a BB 65 gal with low fish load and some corals.

ezhoops, you can't run the drains directly into the skimmer. Just have the pump pulling water from where it drains from the tank into the sump.
 
so plumb the skimmer to the sump, do sit it in the sump? sorry guys I'm a total newbie to these fancy skimmers.
 
You can put the skimmer in the sump if you prefer -- the challenge, depending on how big your sump is, is dealing with the bubbles comming out of the skimmer -- if you don't have a baffled sump you will have to figure out how to trap the bubbles prior to them going into the tank.
 
I hooked up a new CR-5 calcium reactor to my 110 gallon SPS system one week ago. So far everything is going well, my alk initially rose and has stabilized at 9.2 but my calcium levels have not risen. I'm testing every two days to be sure and it's holding steady at 370 :(

What gives? I know that once the alk stabilized the calcium will follow but this is taking a long time...
 
i use turbo calcium & once it is at 420 i set the reactor to hold,raise ur calcium to 400 & see what ur alk holds at.
once u know ur bubble count & drip rate u will never have this problem.

thats the question..how do i raise my Ca to the 400 level without using turbo calcium? Increase my drip rate? won't this increase my alk?
 
increasing ur drip rate is not going to help, a calcium reactor maintains ur Ca level so if its at 370 it will hold it at that, u have to use some kind of additive to raise ur calcium.
 
A calcium reactor well keep the level that there but will not raise on it on,just as Steve 68 has said so you just raise the calcium were you want it ,and you will be fine.
