Blorton -- the velocity pumps won't be able to make the MRC skimmer perform -- I have the t4 and used it to push water through lifeguard modules -- pressure was about 20psi according to the gangue on the mechanical filter -- I know they say the pump will push up to 50 PSI but as the mechanical filter gets more and more clogged with stuff the pump does not continue to drive the pressure up -- The PCX-55 on the other hand will drive water through well beyond the capacity of the T4 -- not to mention the amount of heat that is generated by the T4 compared to the PCX-55.

I have not connected the T4 to my MR-2 but I don't see how it could outperform the PCX.

Oh - and when I removed the T4 my temps dropped by 2 degrees on 100g of water
 
Hey Guys - I had a quick question about my MRC Skimmer - I am getting it setup and have put the return in the refugium section of my sump - this just isn't working out because it is really kicking up the substrate.

The only other option that I really have is to put the return right next to the intake for the skimmer - is that going to be affective - or do I need to just consider getting a better sump. Thanks in advance!
 
Rock455 - thanks a bunch for the info. It's strange because from studying the flow charts, it appears that this pump would best the Mag18 that Andy lists as an option for the MR-2 and possibly approach the pcx40. I know there's no way it'll run with the pcx55. (And no, I'm not even remotely interested in using a Mag on this thing.)

I'm assuming you have the lifegard modules plumbed with 1"?

Dang it. Well, thanks anyway. If you just happen to get a wild hair and get the urge to try the mr-2 off the t4, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it.

Oh, and the heat issue - I can't believe no one hasn't tried strapping some big heatsinks to the velocity pumps. With a very small fan blowing across it, that would have to make a worthwhile difference.

Andy's package break with the pcx55 is pretty hard to beat for buying all new. I should quit trying to be different and just get that. :D

One other thing - I keep seeing different power draw figures for the pcx55. Does it really pull the 170watts I've seen quoted?

I did have it plumbed with the 1" pipe to the lg modules which are 3/4 so there is some reduction there -- The main reason that I got the T4 was because how quiet it is -- and it IS quiet -- you barely notice that it is on -- just about the only way to tell that it is in operation is by touching it -- very slight vibration. I've had just about every Mag that you can get up to the 24. IME the T4 does better than the mag because of its design. Unfortunately both are sub-par when you compare them to a good external pump -- by the way I don't consider the little giant a good external pump -- very weak pump comparatively speaking. I have to say that the pcx is MUCH louder than the T4 but I don't see how they could compare --

If I have the time this weekend I'll hook up the T4 to see how it behaves.
 
I recently acquired a MR-2 with two becketts. I also have a mag-24 and a sequence reeflo dart. which of these two pumps would be better on the MR-2?

The Dart is not a pressure-rated pump, and I don't think it will do very well driving a Beckett. Check w/ Andy to be sure, but I think you will be disappointed.

The Dart is a low pressure application pump, good for a return or closed loop. It won't drive a Beckett effectively. I just solld a brand new one for this reason. Try an Iwaki or a PanWorld.
 
To get the Beckett skimmer to do its best over time used a Iwaki MD55RLT pump,it will cost a little more but it will still be running when the rest of the pumps have stop.You will save money in the long run.
 
So use neither the Mag or the dart, So which pump model would work for the MR-2 with dual becketts the best in the iwaki or panworld line?

Yes, Champion Lighting sells Blue line as do we...Premium Aquatics and I think Marine Depot sells the Panworld...same pump...different names....
 
I am driving my MR-3 dual-Beckett with a Blueline HD70, and I am extremely happy with it. I purchased it w/ the skimmer from Andy in a package deal, as I couldn't beat Andy's price.
 
I think I will go with the Blueline 70 then.

Question, I have a 150 gallon sump. Should I take water from near the surface of my sump or near the bottom. Does it matter?

Hi,

personally I would look into energy used, and compared, that's why I like GEN-X PCX-55HP economical and doing it at 170w

We have lots of people running the PCX 55 with 2 injectors on MR-2's and MR-3's and it is enough pump. If you have one old injector and one new injector, I would look at the old injector and make sure the inner piece on the beckett is in properly. Compare to the new if need be...I know is that inner piece is not in in the correct position you won't get diddly out of the injector...

but if money and energy consumption is not an issue, than in this application, bigger is better

about the water intake, proteins are accumulate on the main tank on the top layers, which are taken by the overflow, thus taking this water is best, dirties, but if don't have recirculating skimmer than is best to take water low and as close as possible to the overflow pipes, proteins on the sump, because of the overflow pipes dumping water, mixing, the proteins will be all mix up in the sump, not just on the top layer, hope that made sense

Memo, here are some pics to help you out.

1st Pic - Beckett is inside of this housing. Back out the 3 thumbscrews a little and then twist and pull out the injector. Then remove the injector from the top of the housing, should just slide out.

2nd Pic - Beckett injector (may be black or grey). There may be a couple of o-rings around the bottom of the injector, you'll need to slide those off before you can pull it apart.

3rd Pic - Injector opened up.

4th Pic - Inside piece of the injector.

You'll notice that the pieces on the opposite sides are notched out and the other 2 sides are not on the inside injector piece. The nothced sides go into the notches on both halves of the injector. You'll want to glue the middle piece to ONE SIDE ONLY. Basically so it looks like pic 3. Be very careful glueing to make sure it doesn't run and glue the 2 halves together. I'd let the glue dry for a good while and clean up any stray glue.

I put my beckett back together after cleaning like the way you said in this post and now i am getting way too much flow into my skimmer. Its overflowing with the valve open all the way.
Any tips to why its doing this?
I had to clean it some tiny snails had gotten in there.
 
Creetin, I'm confused. Did you have it put together the wrong way before?

When you say the valve is all the way open, is it the air valve or the gate valve?
