I have had my mrc-2 with dual beckett running for about 3 days now. It has pulled out some stuff that I thought was not even in the water. Very happy with performance, and quality. It is run by a pan world 200 pump. I have the air valves open about 2 rounds. Does this seem about right? I will post a pic this evening.
Thanks, E. This is coming out of my desire to run the potentially marginal t4 pump I posted about earlier. It occurred to me that instead of having the pump pull from the bottom of the sump and going up to the skimmer, I could pull from the drain(s) and have negative head on the pump.
I'm running the 100G horse trough sump, so the pump would need to climb a bit to feed the skimmer from the outside.
Bleh, I'll just get the pcx55 and quit screwing around.

Do you have the pump throttled back at all or are you running it wide open? I just purchased the MR-2 with dual becketts and undecided between the PanWorld 150 or 200. Looking for good performance but don't want to spin the electric meter more than I have to.
Man, my mrc-3 overflooded again about 30 gals. Thank God that it's in the garage.
I cant seem to dial it in right and when the gunk starts building up on the neck it seems to change how much i open or close the gate valve.
How often do you guys clean your neck?Anyone have this problem as well?

Soinds like you need an autoshutoff waste container. You can buy one that looks nice or you can build one with a jar and some 1.5" PVC and a ping pong ball. That way it shuts the skimmer off when you bottle is full. I clean my neck every 3 or 4 days, every week at least. If I was running real dry I probably would have to clean it more often than that. If I've learned one thing with these skimmers it's that when you get it skimming like you want try not to adjust it anymore. Reduced performance is most likely to a dirty neck, dirty cottonball, dirty air valve or something is in the beckett.

I have it running wide open, I ran it for a couple days with the 150 and it was ok but I was not all that impressed. The 150 made better foam with 1 injector but the 200 is awesome with both injectors.

I upgraded/modified my MR-2 skimmer and now I believe my pump is underpowered. I added a 2 foot extension and extended the beckets. I am currently running it with a Reef Dart but this pump is not giving me the performance I was hoping. Is there anyone else out there that has done this and if so, what pump are you using to drive it? Here are a few pictures of what I did:

For beckett skimmers you really need a high pressure pump. I'm sure someone that has mod theirs will chime in, but you will probably be looking at something like the Blueline 70hd (PanWorld 200PS), Iwaki 70 or possibly the Sequence Wahoo.

It actually only took about 4 hours before producing skimmate
Quick question while we're on the subject of crazy upgrades...
Does anyone know the max tank capacity an MR-1 can be upgraded into and what sort of pump that configuration runs on? Yes, I know the MR-2 is a much better option for future upgradability. Humor me. Please.

In case anyone else wants to know, Andy responded back that a 12" extension on the MR-1 makes it capable of handling 225-250G. That's enough for my needs.

Was there a mention of what pump would be best with that extension?I have a MR1 being driven with a PCX 40, and i'm starting to think the pcx 30 would have been a better match, unless i added the extension to smooth things out.

OK after 3 years I powered up my MR-2 fopr the first time.
Questions are.
I have air entering the top of the becket - I then find that the whole thing pulls off. Is this normal. I see mine seems to be old compared to the new ones. I don't have the screws on top of my becket. Does this make a diffrence.
Otherwise there are bubble in the fresh water test. Just need to clamp the hoses as there is a bit of water leakage.
