MY skimmer has stopped working.....
Can anyone help me pinpoint my problem?
A few days ago I noticed that the water level in my skimmer was down and bubbles were not climbing up the chambers. I shut the air intake off and the water level was about 3-4 inches up the first chamber, then I turned the air back on and the level did not go up much, I seem to be lacking something but I am not sure weather the pump is not pumping enough water or something is blocking the air intake? I took it apart this evening and cleaned the beckett and all chambers but still nothing... HELP please.....

Are you using a waste collector with a ping pong ball inside? That might be stuck in the 'full' position.

Is the pump that runs the skimmer been cleaned if it has, chech the hose going to the pump and the one going to the beckett.

So I finally have my MRC2 skimmer running on my tank. The tank is still empty, but has salt in the water. It's a dual beckett powered by the genx 55 (I think that's the number). Anyways, my question is this: Is it normal for THAT many bubble to be coming from the skimmer itself? I mean, holy microbubbles batman! I don't have a very big sump, and although I have a low flow sump, some bubbles are still getting past the baffles. I just wasn't expecting that many bubbles to leave the skimmer. Admittedly this is my first ever beckett skimmer. Is this normal? Should I be playing with the settings? Should I wait until there is actually life in the tank? Is there a mod I could do, like adding a 90 elbow to the oulet of the skimmer in the sump so the water has to go up and out, not just straight out horizontally? Thanks for any help.

SDguy on the 11/2 bulkhead thats on the box for the drain to the sump,is there a street ell inside of the box on the bulkhead?

Hmmm, good question. Will have to check that when I get home. I assume there should be one, and it should be pointing down, I would guess.

Sounds like you need to add the U tube mod SDguy. You will need to use 1 1/4" pvc instead of 1 1/2" to fit both in the box since you have 2 injectors.

OK...I assume this is a mod that is described in this thread somewhere? Guess I know what I'm doing for a fun filled Friday night....lots of readin :)

No problem. I am also new to the beckett skimmers but I went this way for killing the bubbles.

Sorry it is a mess, but it was a long day hooking everything up.

Tough to tell from the pics, but did you actually have to mod the stock injector assembly that comes with the skimmer, or just add the attachment on the inside?

I was just saying I got a sump with a lot of bubble baffles:) works like a charm. But the U-tube mod I have heard works well. The U-tube will fit right over your stock bulkhead inside the box( from what I have heard).

Whew! OK, for a second there I was about to say, "That's how many bubbles you get AFTER the mod :eek1: "

You have the luxury of space for your sump :D

I do not. :(

The Utube Mod works awesome. I have virtually NO bubbles comming out of my skimmer after installing the mod. It took all of 5 mintues. 4 of those minutes was getting my skimmer disconnected and out from under my stand.

Excellent to hear. Can I really fit two in there though, since I have two beckett's?

From what I have read yes...personally I have only done one though since I only have one beckett.
