i just bought one, they work great!!! but...somehow the acrylic air housing tube to the right of the skimmer cracked and now i have no control over how much air to let in...so it's skimming wet.:(

it has three cracks starting from the threading out. but one of the crack ran straight all the way up. how much would it cost to replace this part?

You can just get some acrylic weld(acrylic glue) and fix it, shouldn't be difficult. Otherwise you will probably have to buy a new housing and the price is listed on the MRC site. FWIW it's a pretty common occurrence to tighten that too tight and crack it.

Will the U tube mod work on a MR-6 with two becketts? Is there enough room in there for 2 tubes? Anyone try this already?

Not sure what the box size on an an MR 6 is but with the smaller sizes(MR2 , MR3 ) you need to use 1 1/4" pipe instead of 1 1/2" to get both to fit.

Here is my MR2 driven with a GX pcx 55

For some reason the Becketts in my MR-3 have started rattling the last couple of days. I took them both apart this morning and cleaned them out (a couple of snails found their way in), made sure to put them back together exactly as they came apart, and there is no change. The skimmer is in the basement so it isn't a big deal, but the noise is rather bothersome when I am working down there.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Mike

Take the beckets back apart and secure the center section to one side with a drop(you want to be able to take it back apart) of super glue gel, let it dry and put it back in. That should fix it.

Fishdoc,

Would you mind sharing the components you used to make that auto-shutoff waste container?

Thanks,

Mike

By the center section you mean the little torpedo looking thingy inside the 2 halves of the housing?

Yep.

Well I haven't posted a how to because this is an MRC thread and Andy sells autotopoff containers(also the guy I learned it from posts here regularly). I guess it's not really a "secret" though:rolleyes:
1 1/2" pvc, a ping pong ball, a couple of reducers, whatever size npt fitting you need and a plastic or glass jar with a plastic top. That's basically it:)

Im thinking about a MRC MR1 skimmer. Can anyone comment on its performance as well as noise? Would it be too noisy if housed in a cabinet in the living room?

I own a MR-1 running a panworld pump. My couch is like 3 feet from the tank. Honestily it's not quiet but not so much so that it is annoying. If noise is a issue don't get the Gen-X pcx-30 pump for the skimmer that suckers noisy. Go with the Blueline/Pan-World or if noise is really a bother go for a submersible pump. The catch being that something like a MAG12 is like a 30% performance reduction over a good pressure rated exturnal pump.
The skimmer itself really isn't very noisy it is more the pump you get.

Performance, the MR-1 is the best skimmer I've ever owned. Its built like a tank, stable, its easy to clean, and easy to adjust. I owned a Coralife 220 and the MR-1 is 4-5 times more capable that skimmer.

I have a 90 and got the MR2, for the price diff its a lot more skimmer. I havent managed to talk the other half into letting me cut a hole in the wall to install it into the closet behind the tank yet, so I can't attest to how loud it is. I'll be talking a day off to do a stealth (read: sneak and too late to stop me!) install this week, then I can report back assuming I am not disabled too badly after she finds out. ;) Granted I won't be running the same pump, for now I'll be using a Mag24 since thats what I have on hand.

LOL....I hear ya.......I'm running a dual beckett MRC-2 on my 90 and plumbed everything down into my basement so it can make all the noise it wants. When I'm down in the fishroom(my happy place) I just close the door and blast the sterio.......what skimmer/pump noise?

isn't there a thread on this?

how bout a link to it, anyone?

thanks

i have just received my waste collection cup. when I blow air down in the tube some air still releases is this a problem or is it normal? yes there is a pinpong ball inside and the is nothing inside the chamber to prevent a good seal.
Thanks
Michael
