Drstupid,

That is right, the way I had it set up I was reducing the 1" outflow from my gen-x 55 to 1/2 right away and sending it into the beckett that way. Now I am keeping 1" all the way. But I am still not sure why it changes after I dial it all in? I dont think I have any back pressure on the skimmers output.. The beckett and most of the skimmer box are above water..

drstupid take the lid off the skimmer cup and see if the skimmer runs better and keep a eye on it so you can turn it off if you need to .If it works better you need a bigger drain hole in the cup to let more air out of the skimmer. On my own skimmer i have a 1 in vent .

that's a great idea, i'll try that next. the threaded hole looks like it could probably handle a 3/4" barbed fitting without modification.

i think i remember someone mentioning something about adding a seperate port to the top of their skimmer cup, with a valve on it, just for venting air. am i making that up? does that make sense, versus sticking 1" flex out the drain?

thanks for the advice!

jjmatti one way to find out what it might be is to close ur air valve all the way & look at ur water level if it stays in one spot then it might just be something in the air but if it does not then u are having back pressure problems from the drain.

Steve, I took the advice you gave Drstupid and removed the lid and watched it for a while and all seemed ok. The skimmer was acting like the ping pong ball in the waster collector had shut down the skimmer except the waste collector wasnt full..??? I re-cleaned everything and put it back together and everything seems more stable now,, I am keeping my fingers crossed..
Thanks,
J-

maybe your ping pong ball in the waste collector is sticking. if things act up again, perhaps try just draining into a bucket for a couple of days to rule that out.

It was the ping pong ball.! Even though it was in the down position it was covered in gunk and was restricting the airflow. I tried to replace it but couldnt get to it without breaking the plumbing. So I just ran it under hot water and swished it around until it looked clean. That seems to have solved the problem.

Looks like i'm in the club.... :)

Question on the U-tube upgrade? So what keeps it in place. I have a 1 inch bulk head to play with and a 1 and 1/2 inch pipe would just loosely hang over it? I have a dual beckett and the 1 inch bulk heads are very close to the corners. Please help to clarify this. I was hoping to try this today but it just is'nt clear.

the 1 1/2" fitting slips right over the threaded bulkhead, and is held in place by the side of the chamber. it should be obvious when you do it.

Ok, I wedged a 1 1/2" slip on, I guess it works. Had to use some electrical tape though. Not exactly a great fit, but it is holding. Thanks

jjmatti one mod i did to the wast collector was make the holes bigger so more air would let out i just made one big hole on top of the ping pon ball.

Does MRC have any plans for a sulphur denitrator?

Mar

I know someone who is using one of his fluidized filters as a sulfur nitrate reactor, and apparently it is working well. It doesn't have a recirculation pump on it, but you really don't need one on them.

Can you tell me how to go about using his fluidized bed for a sulphur denitrator?
diagram? Picture?
