my coralife kicked the bucket last night and i need a skimmer fast, a local guy is selling an MRC MR2 skimmer with no pump. their site says they are rated for a 300 gal but a second pump can be added for a bigger system, if im running both pumps how much more of an advantage would this be?

my set up is a 250 gal and a 100 gal sump.

also how good is this skimmer? can i use my coralife superskimmer pump to tie me over a paycheck or 2 till i get a better pump?

what pumps should i be using on this?

thanks guys!

I'd check out Marine reef creations for exact pump. Its not a second pump but the Beckett injector on skimmer that can be added to skimmer your gonna need a pump around 1200-1500gph for thay skimmer

It would be a upgrade from your coralife. I had one a couple of years ago. it was a good skimmer. but you have to use a strong pressure rated pump to get them to really perform. I started mine with a mag 9 (not a pressure pump) and swapped it out to a Gen X pcx 55 (external pressure rated pump) and it really came alive, skimming pretty good.

the problem is, depending on how good of a deal you get (probably between 150-200) and then you buy a good pump (another 150) you could buy a nice needlewheel skimmer for 350-400 and use ALOT less watts.

yea what does these go for new? this guy wants 470 bucks with the pump. thats seems a little high for a used skimmer. canadian funds btw

MRC's aren't cheap....

Depends on the pump; I was just over the border from you, and ran a Sequence Wahoo on mine. I think I sold the MR2, with an extension, the wahoo, and two injectors for about that, in US.

Wonder if it's my old skimmer that made it's way a bit north. :)

If you need help/have questions, feel free to ask. I loved the unit, it was just WAY oversized for what I was running at the time. Still miss it sometimes; trust me.

Good luck, and grab it; that's my advice.

I wouldn't pay more than $200 U.S. for a used one without pump. and then you can buy your own new pump for $150 U.S.

when I was selling mine I couldn't give it away. lol

so do you guys think this is a good deal then?

its not modded and im not sure what pump he has. he is selling the two items seperate ( $320 for the skimmer and 180 for the pump) and he told me 470 for the package.

im assuming its one reccomended for the skimmer.

ive got a 1800gph pump kickin around, could i use this pump to get this thing fired up?
