MSX200 Recirc Mod-45scfh

Ok, i like many want the best for a good price. I also want to be able to run it external or internal and not worry about the water fluctuations. The candidate is the msx200. So it took about half hour to recirc it and mod it......but another 2hrs to perfect. It took quite a bit of time to get the bottom union lined up correctly. The first 2hrs would only pull 25-30scfh. After getting it lined up right its up to 45scfh and thats using a rma meter which is very restricting. I'm guessiing its more like 50. Anyhow, here's the step by step.

Now i'm just waiting for skimmate to start showing up.

Yes i do, it would be a bit different though. Instead of the input coming from the bottom, you would have to pull the water from above the pump at teh bottom of the reaction chamber, below the bubble plate. Would be interesting to see.

Well, after about 10hrs of fizz its starting to pull some skimmate! Its looking very nice. I'll update with a few pics later.

I dont know that much about skimmers...but I dont see how this will make it perform THAT much better. Why not keep the MW as the feed below the bubble plate, then have the recirc pump pull from the top of the reaction chamber and feed it back below the bubble plate for another pass up the column? That would make more sense to me...

Let me know...

I like the recirc mod!

I have a suggestion. Why not put a 45 degree elbow of the input tube.

like this\/

It causes the water to spin and I think this adds to the dwell time.

Well, the sicce will pull the water getting ready to go out the standpipe meaning it will recycle the water over and over giving it more time to bond with proteins. Reason recirc's are always fed at the top is because most cases, like this one you use a weaker pump around 300gph to use as a feed pump. If you put it that low on the body it cant handle the pressure. It also has to go from the top to the bottom meaning it will have to pass through the foam. If you fed it from the bottom some of the water will just go right through the standpipe. Its not a good design that way. HTH

Well, my sump fluctuates in water so pretty much any skimmer i buy i recirc...and i just prefer them to any other skimmer out there as i think they are the best design.

Is it true with the sicce pumps, you can not run the pumps externally, due to heat issues, so you would alway shave to run this recirc mod in sump??

I always run recirc's in the sump just in case of leaking or overflows, but yes, they do run hot external so its true.

Well, here's an update of what it is doing 20hrs later, its starting to break in nicely. Still pulling 45scfh.

Luke.....You're CRAZY, just plain crazy :lol::lol:

I know man, i have a real problem! All i see is skimmers.....
BKSupreme200.jpg

nah...you need to be dreaming of that same thing, but row after row of BK Deluxe's:lol:

To me the BK SM's look poorly designed along with the rest of the skimmers using the bubbleplate with the riser coming up from it...new octo's, BM, octopro. Just seems like you took a perfectly good 8" tube and made a 5" skimmer inside of it. :D Not saying they wont work, just that there is a lot of wasted space. (same thing for the BKmini ;))

Yep, my thoughts exactly. For the bk supermarine the riser on the inside is pretty lame. It reminds me of the lame ati bm riser tube....and the in sump h&s and octo ps versions. All pretty terrible imo.
