MTC skimmer club!

Benifits that I can see

1. Great for those that run ozone. No escaping residual ozone
2. Prevents overflow which is ideal for external skimmers
3. Wife factor, reduces smells

Cons
1. You need to drain to an external collection device to keep pressure down
How does it prevent overflow ? Anyone care to explain how does a taller body skim better ? Am thinking of getting a 50inch body however would fluval sp 6 be strong enough?

The lid is sealed. So if the line to where you are draining the skimmate to clogs and the cup fills up nothing spills out. If there were holes on top you would get skimmate flowing out. If its external thats bad.

Taller = more contact time

Change what's being fed? Add any other kind of filter or media?

Mines a baby poo like substance

I too feed pretty heavy, the equivelent of 4 3 gram cubes per day. This includes a 4" x 4" piece of Nori. I get nowhere near that amount of production. I wonder if the pump makes that much difference I have a Mag18. Also run GFO, GAC and have a ATS.

Here is a video of it in action:

my venturi is quite loud all the sudden anyone experience this before?

When was the last time you cleaned it out or did anything to prevent build up?

My pump shuts down 4 times a day with feeding and the back flow may help prevent some build up. But I also boil close to a cup of ro/di I in the microwave for 2 minutes and shove the airline into the cup and let it suck it up. I can see a difference in the air draw before and after.

ca1ore on here rigged up a flushing device that was pretty cool.

Its only 4 days old. I just notice the sudden noise when i was shifting some pipes. i took out the venturi to wash but its still noisy. When it was totally silence to begin with.

mystery noise solve. A tiny piece of eggcrate was stuck somewhere the venturi that could not be seen at all =.=

How long does it takes it to kick in for you guys ? I notice after I remove my skimz skimmer the foam head from my mtc is gone. It's 5th day only though. While thing is upon installing I get insane skimate on day 1 to 3

Here's about where mine runs. Do very small adjustments at a time

Yupp am at the same height as you :)
The sp6 has nice amount of flow at 0 head but it doesn't handle head height so well. It's only 13' so I'm not sure what that fully means but usually it's suggested for venturi based skimmers that head height or being pressure rated is more important then gph. Why I went with the waveline as it has 23' head height on their apex ready version of the dc12000. Best head height I found for a dc pump that was somewhat reasonably priced.

You may need to raise that water level slightly or just wait another 24hours to see what happens. Then do a very small adjustment on the gatevalve and wait another 24-48hours before doing another very small adjustment.

icic. May i know how long did you wait before it kicked in?
I'd have to look back in this thread as I documented everything here. But I recall it kicking but right away but I considered it fully broke in a week or so later maybe. I was running a mag18 on it at the time. Which has around 16' head I think.

Hmm oh well will monitor and update if I don't see anything in 2 days I be killing myself haha
