MTRC February Meeting Minutes

with about 50ish active members in our club (as stated by someone, i think justin said we have around 50) and mabe only around 10 or so people that would attend any given meeting durring the year....(hopefully more though :D ) this will no doubt bring a few problems when the majority of 10 people which could be as little as a 6-4 vote would put in place certian decision that will impact 50ish members.....and the best and often given answer is to attend the meetings if you want to have a vote....im sorry, we all live in the real world here which includes jobs...schooling....sickness...and many other prior commmitments that would keep many of us from even getting to go to a good few of these meetings......which as luck might have it whenever there would be some important vote going on there might only be 4 people there and we would have a majority rulling of 3 people that would then be implimenting something for the 50ish........not trying to start anything, just my 2 cents :D

Just so you know, the BOD does the voting. Members only vote if the BOD is not in agreement. And you are correct, maybe there will only be 10 people there, maybe 50, we will just have to wait and see. We all live in the real world, at least I think we do

This club is not all about voting, it is about REEF TANKS! We are here to have fun and talk about reef tanks :smokin: If you were not happy with the items we voted on (alk testers, phosphate testers and par meter) then don't use them then. :D

thanks Rick for clearing that up ...i didnt have any issues on the items voted on, just thought we all would get to vote....didnt realize we only got to vote if the BOD was not in agreement...i agree with Mel and cant wait to make more fish food in the future and many other great things to come

I'm fairly sure the Microsoft By-Laws are more than 1 1/4 pages long. I'm all for letting the fun begin and really don't give a rats @@@ how my $10 is spent each year. With a group this size you will never avoid what is going on right now unless you get the rules down in black n' white.

I recommend you "waste" a little time up front and rework what is probably 2-4 paragraphs of the by-laws to fit how the current BOD plans to run things this year. I think you will not have any issues in gaining the support to get the approval required per the current process outlined below. Also, just to be clear, the words "at a General Meeting" in my mind clearly state you must be present at the meeting to vote.

And closing this thread at this point is the absolute worst thing you could do...

Article V

Amendments to the Bylaws

Section 1 All proposed amendments to the By-laws must be in writing and must list the Article and Section that is to be amended. All proposed amendments must be signed by three (3) active members and presented to the Board of Directors for consideration. If approved by the Board of Directors, the proposed amendment shall be submitted for a general vote.

Section 2 A two-thirds (2/3) majority of voting members present shall be required to pass these changes at a General Meeting.

Section 3 All proposed changes will be published in the legal paper of the Club previous to the meeting at which action is to be taken

Motion Seconded

Motion Seconded

Hear ye! Hear ye!
Comes now before the middle Tennessee reef club and her members, the honorable vice president mr mel starcher presenting his motion to close this thread and retire our scrambled minds to matters of much greater importance... The point has been drilled into all our heads... IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO PARTICIPATE IN AS MANY MEETINGS AS POSSIBLE IN FAVOR OF VOICING ANY CONCERNS, QUESTIONS, IDEAS, AND THOUGHTS ABOUT ANY CLUB MATTERS. is there a second to the motion?

I will gladly second that! And I understand it That makes 2 1/2 votes so the Motion is Verified as Stated!
And I'm glad as this voting business is over now, Lets get down to Having some fun again. Tag your It Hehehehehe

Brett, We will avoid all this as soon as the same old Arguements that pop up every year are put to the trash can where they belong. I will not let this year be wasted, No matter how hard people try and stir the pot!!!

Bill - I'm trying to help you get there. Ignoring, throwing in the trash can, closing threads is not the way to get there. Please consider my recommendation for spending a few ounces of effort on updating the By-Laws for how the current BOD would like to see the club operate. I really really think this will save you a lot of heartburn down the road.

We are operating within all guidelines stated in the bylaws.

We felt it was better to give the membership a say by letting them
break the tie as to vote or not vote. This has been brought up many times
before, that you may be unaware of. I absolutely appreciate your concerns,
but let's quit beating that "DEAD HORSE"..........

Bill

I agree with Brett.

Personally, I believe most of the problems with the past 2 years has been a complete lack of leadership. Bill, I believe you, Mel, Rick, and Jay can lead this group well and get the club out of the dumps. However, running the club without the by-laws is like trying to run America without the Constitution. Just change it. The BOD can do so, has done so in the past, and can do so now to better benefit the club.

It will be brought up at the next meeting, And Hopefully resolved for Good. There are much more important matters to be dealt with as you will all be aware of soon enough!
Trust me the Bylaws are not the Problem at hand we are facing.
