It's that time again
I've served 2 terms as President and wish to thank you all for the opportunity. It's been a good couple of years
I will NOT be running for office this year. The end of January and the month of February is the time to nominate, lobby, drum up support, etc. There are 4 elected positions:
President
The President is generally responsible for making sure there are meetings and topics for the meetings. The President conducts club business at meetings (i.e., makes announcements, solicits input, etc.). The President is also responsible for making sure the Swap goes well. That said, the President can also delegate to other Board members. Whomever becomes the next President will inherit a club in pretty good shape. We had over 100 members at the end of 2008, and so far this year we have close to 50 members that have signed on or renewed. There is a decent bank account balance of around $7000 or so (Norman, the Treasurer has the exact figures). We have been reserving $5000 each year to make sure we can do things we would like for the Swap. So far expenses have not been anywhere near that, but you never know if an ice storm could pop up and cause a cancellation. Those $ also allow us to grow the swap and do more things each year. We have been pretty frugal with the $. The President will be a leader in setting the agenda for the coming year, and may elect to further grow the club enhance camaraderie and community by doing new and different things for meetings, or other events.
Vice President
The VP pretty much supports the President and takes on tasks that the President assigns. The VP also fills in for the Pres when the President is not available.
Treasurer
The Treasurer keeps the books and manages the Paypal account and the club bank account. The Treasurer also handles membership cards.
Secretary
The Secretary is someone who has generally helped out wherever needed and is a position that I was beginning to grow into the "meeting planner" -- but those duties are not set in stone.
So MTRC, this is your chance to step up and make the club even better. Try out new ideas, continue ones you think work well, and generally grow enthusiasm of the membership, and grow broader interest in responsible reefkeeping and aquarium husbandry.
It has been an honor to serve you all, and I look forward to the next set of leaders moving us forward.
So this is a thread to do 2 things:
1) post nominations for officers (feel free to nominate yourself if you would like
), and
2) post ideas about what you think the club should be like or do in the future.
We will have elections in March and the new officers will assume their club duties as soon as the election results are in
