Multi Colored Angel Owners Please

Can you please tell me your experiences with these fish? Are they hard to keep? what do they eat? can I keep them with a Flame angel?

I have a pair in my main reef tank (SPS reef - 220 gallon), they are great fish without any aggression issues. There are no other centropyge (dwarf) angels in with them but there are 5 large angels and they do well. The female nips on the corals much more then the male (or any of the other fish in the tank) but not horrible enough to remove her.

Funny enough, I picked one up this weekend from an LFS. So far so good. It was eating within hours of being in my tank; LifeLine's Herbivore mix, Rod's food (( red, blue and green labels )), Prime Reef, and Spectrum pellets -- though it does have some issues with the pellets, since it is a smaller fish. It also picks at a nori sheet too.

When I first put it in the tank it nipped at my green Digi (( maybe because of the color )), but it hasn't touched it since.

It is sharing the tank with a Potter's angel (( smaller )), which only chased it for a little bit, but my pink skunk clown pair caused more issues.

My tank is 74-76 currently and hoping to get it colder after I redo a few things with it.

I recommend keeping a close eye on your fish. I had a pair of these fish up and die on me. Both very small Multicolors from Marshall Island. They went through a very similar pattern/behavior change as what I have seen with juiced Tusks, Butterflies and other commonly cyanided fish.

There has been an influx of C. multicolor recently. More then I have ever seen before.

Interesting. I have had mine for over a year now and they actually have spawned as well in the tank. Something to watch with the new ones.

I have one in my 120 fowlr. Lovely fish. Eats everything. It's pushy with my clowns (of all fish) and will sporadically boss them around but no real aggression. My tank runs about 79-80 degrees. When I bought the fish a few months ago, it was priced at 60 bucks, which is a very good price. There was a seond one in another tank that I considered getting as well but the owner said the two had been together and fought. Wondering if it would have worked out in a larger tank but I didn't want to chance it. He still has the other one. I'm surprised it hasn't been picked up given the price.

Yes, I would say a huge influx compared to previous years. One or more of the wholesalers are getting a bunch of these and they are selling them much lower than others.

They are very hardy and usually very easy to get them to eat.

Mine is also very "chesty", especially with other Centropyge sp. In fact, I cant keep another in my 240. He will kill them. But he is thick, healthy, and gorgeous.

I have found mine to be very hardy as well... When I bought him the LFS had to dismantle a small display to get him out, and then we had a 2 hour drive home. Plopped him in the tank (didn't QT - had been living at the LFS for over 6 months in a small display alone) and he immediate went to cruising around picking at rocks. No adjustment period whatsoever. I recently upgraded to the 180... had to tear down the 90 and put the fish in a 55 for half a day while I moved the 90 and put the 180 in its place. All the other fish are cowering under rocks, he's just cruising around doing his thing. Again, had to move him to the new 180, all other fish are nowhere in sight, he's just swimming around like any other day. Nothing phases this fish. He's definitely my favorite in my tank. Eats any food I provide, picked at a gorg for a few days but then stopped. Picks here and there but not even enough to hinder polyp extension.

Both were very active, and eating well when I first got them, but over time dwindled.

I think mine's well past the cyanide point, been in captivity for 9 months at least now - and he's not one of those little ones either - he's quite big for a centropyge.

Ive had one for well over a year with a potters with no issues. When I first added it though I did have to remove the potters for a week...once I put the potters back there were no issues other then the occasional chase! great fish! has always been one of my favorites!! eats everything I put in there!! Temp stays around 77-80

Thanks all for your input. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one. I've been looking for a long time and they've always been priced over $100. I walked into my LFS and they had it for $60. I'll keep you posted. Thanks
