Multi Colour sea fan

yes s a very sexy Gorgonian, i'm hoping to score with a frag of it too there is a reefer that has one in SASK Canada so im hoping to get a frag or one of them and track it down.

Michelle,

I recommend that you get some Fauna Marin Ultra SeaFan and some UltraMin S aminos. I kept the vaunted Blue Berry Gorgonian alive for a year by target feeding it with these products.

Good luck and good score,

James

I agree on this recommendation. Also go to their forum and learn how to make the food product for Sea Fans, it involves making a supernatant, it' s two day process and you can make up to one weeks worth of food at a time. The gorg needs laminar flow (opposite of what the synthetic corals need), the key is finding out the amount needed. Then comes the feeding, to have long term success, you will need to feed 5-6 times a day and more if you can. If you can find a food delivery system (you will have to invent it) more the better. Even Cyclops might be a little big as far as food side, gorgs that "appear" to have eaten food can still have issues, meaning the food might be uptake but then not use able to the coral. The golden ticket is what dangles before us, we all want to use our SPS/LPS tanks and be successful in keeping apo synthetic corals in the same tank. It may be something that's not attainable. Algae is the gorgs biggest enemy and then next is feeding. I wish you nothing but but luck and hope you are successful!

Dan, what about the new Oyster Feast product by Reef Nutrition? Is that a better size? It makes the water a bit cloudy, but I'm feeding my system lightly.

I suggest converting a kalkwasser reactor. The best part is it's already been invented. :) Just need a slow feed pump like either an Aqualifter on a timer or a controllable metering pump, or a slow peristaltic pump.

I would also suggest gluing it down, gorgs really need a solid holdfast.

Last week I posted about the polyps not coming out...

I could see a thin film of algea starting to grow on it, and I knew this was the problem. I tried to use a turkey baster and blast some of that algea off...that didn't work to well.

So I plucked the coral from it's hole and took a toothbrush to it ! lol. I scrubbed all that algea off, and I was shocked at how much there actually was ! No wonder the polyps weren't coming out !

Within a few hours, every wingle polyp was out and that poor coral was screaming "FEED ME !"

All is good now !

It's already in a med flow area of the tank, so I was surprised at how much algea had decided to grow.

I think I've found a food that this guy likes. It's a home made food, and two minutes after I put it in the tank, all the polyps came out to feed.

They weren't extended at the time because I had just cleaned the back glass of all the algea and coraline, so a lot of the corals weren't extended as usual.

That would be due to the particle range and density of the product Marc ;)

Interested to hear more about what this home made food is? :)

I'm working on that....I threw the sample baggie in the garbage and didn't check the ingredients. I've contacted the guy who made it, and I'll get the ingredient list from him.

It's a blender mush of some sort....

I took some more pictures last night....but they look remarkably the same as the first ones I took. SO I won't post them....
