Multibar Angel diet question.

So i have been thinking a lot about "in tank" foods for Multibars. I recently learned that skunk cleaner shrimp, if you have a pair, will breed like crazy. First off, is this true? And second, would skunk shrimp larvae be a good food source for a Multibar?

It might be a nice treat but I doubt the shrimp would produce enough larvae to really make a substantial difference, especially when you consider the impact two shrimp will have on other micro-fauna within the tank.

IME, Multibars will pick at pods while in QT, and hopefully will progress to flake, pellet and frozen. Mine eat everything.

Good point!

Pods>shrimp. Makes sense. I got a bag of mixed pods that have been populating my tank well. I was thinking the shrimp larva would just add to the mix of live food, but I didn't think about the fact that the shrimps will be grazing as well.

Thanks for the input.

Mine eats everything, I have had it now for three years and it is one of my favourites. Stunning little fish

The male I have has been with me for 3 months and will eat flake and pellet as long as I feed frozen to change it up. I'm finding he hates eating the same thing all the time. The female, however, is more finicky. She'll take pellets and flakes occasionally, but has a preference for frozen foods.

Unless you can setup a continuous brine shrimp hatch and feed I'm not sure it would be of much benefit. You would still have to feed each day even if you had something setup to keep the angel well fed and healthy

I don't think there's any real nutritional value in brine shrimp

I have had my eye on this fish for awhile now. I just love them. I only have a Midas Blenny in the tank right now, and the Multibar may be my next and final purchase. A pair would be sweet, but my tank is only 30" long. Not sure if that will work. I am back and forth on the issue of over crowding vs. loneliness.

I have been trying to build my tank with the Multibar in mind.

Yeah. I was thinking of it only as a supplement. I would still feed regularly as well. My thought was to have something in the tank to satisfy the Multibars grazing habit as well as fighting boredom.

I may still do it, but I don't think it will have the impact I first thought it would.

I have been following your thread for a while now with much interest.

I have added a few extra thousand pods, when I've first got new 'finicky' eaters, such as the Multibars or leopard wrasses...
How have your multibars been with corals? Would love to add one; just a bit leery.
They have not been a problem...as you've seen, I have mostly softies, but none of my angels have touched anything other than zoas.

Right on. I am taking in all the info I can.

I added "mixed pods" from reef cleaners about 3 months ago and they are doing very well. Everywhere. I think my Midas Blenny leaves them alone, although I have seen her eating off the glass from time to time. But yeah, I have pod life on the glass and in the column. They are so small though. I am not sure if they will get bigger. I kind of thought they would.

My live rock is maturing nicely, but still could use less GHA and more of that little rooty stuff. Nothing is really eating at it at the moment, or the pods, so time is on my side.
