multiple types of clownies

I have posted on this before but would like to ask opinions and past experiences again.

I had 2 true percs in my tank, both fairly small still 1-1.5 inches or so that took to living in the top of the tank around the water movers and filter exhaust. i have 3 anenomes and they wanted nothing to do with hosting in them so i decided i wanted to get a pair or clarkii's. their sizes are closer to 2-2.5 inches. The clarkiis have taken to hosting in the 3 anenome's/

now the deal with clowns i know is that they tend to not get along with other types of clowns in tanks. but i have seen little aggression and ZERO fin tear or any damage to either of the smaller true percs.

question is am i just getting lucky right now and this happy existance could go down the drains or is there a way for 2 clarkiis and 2 true percs to coexist in a 45 gal tank?

feel free to slander and call me a dumb noob to the hobby... i take no offense

How big is your tank? They might be able to find their own territories if its large enough. I have heard of lots of people keeping two pair in their tank without problems.

OMG NOOB YOU'VE BROUGHT DOOM ON US ALL! ;)

Now that I've got that off my chest...I'd say it's quite a lot of luck. How long has this been going on? IMO it's not incredibly likely that it will last long term, but as always I'm hopeful that it does!

I have kept multiple pairs in the same tank in the past - until one pair decides it is time to start creating a family and then all bets are usually off. In one case, I did not have a spare tank available (nor the room) when one pair started getting aggressive, so I took egg crate, glued pieces of rubble all over it, and inserted it into the tank as a partition that blended into the environment. Both pairs ended up spawning in the same tank for almost two years. (Note that it was a 400 gallon tank). Then, of course, the three hurricanes came to visit and that ended that particular arrangement.

Good luck!!!!

lol its a small 45 gallon tank which is the problem cause there isnt enough room. i have had the clarkiis for almost 2 monthes now, im pretty sure that i will find a lfs or another hobbyist to trade/buy the Percs from me to avoid any harm in the near future, but i love the little bastards

well if he is having luck so must i because i have differnt ones in my 90 and only one anenome zero agression toward each other for over a year

I think it can be done but most people that have tried have not had them for long periods of time or have very large tanks.
I currently house a pair of Percuala's and three Latz in a 600g tank and the big female Perc. is very territorial with the Latz but I have setup areas in the tank that allow each clown to have its own spot so they do not cross paths to often.

I hate to pile on, but it's not "can they" it's more of a "how long will this work". Since fish like people are totally individual it's hard to say. However as a general suggestion, it may last anywhere from a year to three years, it may last a couple month. Usually the onset is when they desire to breed and then the war is on.

t-bone....1 year is hardly long term when you're talking about fish that can live upwards of 25-30 years.

i guess the optimon word here is can when it comes to the life span of a fish i guess i will let you know in 20 years but for now its just fine if there is one thing ive learned is not all fish are stereotypical
