muratic acid? green hairy mushrooms

can i use muratic acid to kill off the shrooms?what will the acid do to tank parameters or coral that is in close prox.? i was thinking about using a hypodermic needle to boot it into the mouth of the shroom.what do you think will it work?

Wow you really want them dead. Can't you remove the rock? I had some mushrooms on a base rock and blasted them with a baster to get them to shrink then used a screwdriver to scrape them off. They never returned.

Ya I'm not so sure muriatic in any dilution is safe for our systems.

some of the rocks are not so easy to remove.and ya i want them dead as door nails.i have removed rocks before and cut them off with razors,then took the rock outside to burn with a propane torch.only to have said shroom come back.so the acid may seem a bit over the top but thats where i am headed.

maybe. But very slowly so you can remove it if necessary. I'd place the star directly on the green hairy shrooms. Gosh I hate those things, too!

I wouldn't inject them with muriatic acid. That stuff is VERY strong. A little bit could drop your pH. If you wanted to try and inject them with something, I'd suggest a very thick kalk slurry.

Here's a thread on another site discussing it. No one reported success except for this guy:

I killed a big one in a small tank once by having low nutrients and blasting it with a 10watt white light LED. Just melted away. Strong white light causes the shroom to eject all it's symbiotic algae, and with no nutrient stack it starves.

If you want to use acid, I'd use lemon juice. If it works for aptasia, it should work for mushrooms

i will try the kalk paste first then a shot of lemon juice to boot. thanks guys

I'd just razor blade them off every time they came back if I couldn't take the rock out. you should be able to dig most of the foot out. if they come back, repeat.
