Muscling a Mussel

I recently purchased a Florida rock with a large live (I believe as it is closed tightly) mussel that has a large gorgonia and at least three other corals growing on it.
I want to dislodge the mussel so I can place it and all of the corals growing on it on my reef but I am worrying that if I pull it off the rock it will tear the foot and kill it like it would a Tridacnid.

Any thoughts on this?

yes and a leave a small piece for the attachment. It is actually a cool rock and i was hoping that if I took off the mussel then perhaps it would reattach unlike a clam.

i am not sure if I am helping... but... I have FLA LR, and with it several mussles. I am not sure how but one of them came unattached. I was very bummed as I thought it would die. It fact, it re-attached itself to another piece of LR and is doing very well. The "Stalk" for lack of a better word he left beind was a little bit soft. I know that dfoesn't help you with how to unattached but it if it happens there is def hope it will re-attach.
