mushroom / water help

I just did a seven gal water change and the center of my mushrooms look as if tiny worms are coming out. what did I do to them? I use a water check that has the color cards. Nitrite is 0 saltwater ph is about 8.4 nitrate is 0 ammonia is inbetween 0 and .25. Could it be Ammonia and what do I need to do.

I would get a better test kit, confirm your ammonia test. Ammonia should always be 0. What type of water did you use for the water change? RODI?

I used salt water I bought at something fishy. It has sat about a weeek they said it would be fine. Guess not. What kind of test kit do you use? Will everything be fine or what should I do.

We really need more information to help you out.

Can you post a picture of the mushrooms?
What is your salinity? I assume the water that you got at the store was covered in an air tight container, right? (so that the salinity didn't increase?)
I can't see how it was ammonia...if you didn't add ammonia to your tank.

The best thing you can do is take some pictures for us and list all of your water parameters.

on a hydrometer it measures1.025 it was an air tight container. The centers of the mushrooms have almost pulled back in.

I have seen my mushrooms do that. Usually when they are stressed from a dip or fragging. It looks REALLY bad but they should be ok. Did you stir the water good and have it at the same temp as your tank before adding it?

Ive heard that these types of corals (mushrooms) sometimes "spit their guts out" as a method of feeding. Mine do it occasionally.

I wouldnt worry.. They will be fine... afterall, theyre mushrooms!

My hairy mushrooms have done that before and not long after they were just fine.

The question I have is: Was the water you added buffered?

is this a physical defect, a parastic etc ?
Basically whenever I've seen it it was due to stress. Either a sudden change in salinity, pH, Temp, who knows really. It could be that the water added was O2 depleated. I have also heard stories that some people who sell water (no names mentioned) don't change their filters regularly and will sell basically tap water (chlorine and all) as RO/DI.
I'm not saying this is the case but I would question it. If you havent already and the shroom is still upchucking I would add some dechlorinator, check the pH and Alk.

This is exactly the reason I have stuck with RC for so long. Granted, there is a decent amount of Parroting that goes on in some of the threads you come across. But on the most part, the knowledge base available to everyone is from "Old Salt's" who have the experience to back up their claims. While I will comment on what I've heard are issues or fix-it's I'll also tell you MY experience so you can have a point of reference.
P.S. Don't even get me started with the "Copper Lasts FOREVER" rumor. :mad2:

How about the myth that marine fish are not capable of adapting to quick changes (within there preferred range) :)
