Mushrooms for sale

I have a bunch of single mushrooms that I need to sell. The colors are red, green striped, green pimple, purple with a blueish tint and purple ones. I live about 50 miles east of OKC. I get into the city about once a month. I am coming in today but will be leaving in about 20 min so it will probably be another 2 weeks before I get in again. I would like $3.00 a piece for them.

They are generally low light Corallimorphians. Discosoma (=Actinodiscus) species do decent even under Normal Output T8s. Though they do drastically better in a tank set up with at least Power Compacts, because it penetrates the water slightly deeper. Some people have difficulty adding Mushrooms to tanks that are highly powerful with Metal Halides and T5 High Output. This isn't usual, and the tanks that have problems with this usually aim to keep corals better suited for the light.

Well, technically PC (power compact, also referred to as CF sometimes, Compact Flourescent) are often/typically T5 bulbs. However, they are shaped like a long U or something, allowing for more light from the same bulbs. When Travis talks about T5 HO (high output) bulbs, he is referring to T5 bulbs that are normal, 2-ended bulbs used WITH A GOOD REFLECTOR. That last bit is important.

As for keeping low light corals with T5/MH.... I have 3 arches of rock in my tank and keep the mushrooms underneath the arches. They basically get indirect light and do very well there. I also use the same technique to control growth of corals that I don't want to get out of hand, such as Kenya Tree, Xenia and GSP (Green Star Polyps).

Simple Crash Course:

There is a Normal Output (NO) and a High Output (HO) rating for bulbs. In the hobby, as you know, there are many lighting systems and variations. Here is some quick coverage. NO T8s (NO); your standard fluorescent bulb. Power Compacts (PCs); more powerful bulb with a built in ballast that usually doubles over making a U shape. T12 HO (Very High Output [VHO]); these are bigger and more powerful than the standard fluorescent bulb. T5 HO (T5s); these are the really thin bulbs that pack a punch when supplied with a specially designed parabolic reflector. Metal Halide (MH); [not to be confused with High Pressure Sodium (HPS)] These are large incadescent bulbs that burn bright and hot.
