Mushrooms overrunning my tank

OK, this is sort of an odd question....

  • My Shrooms are multiplying like crazy
  • My Anenome split and is growing out of control
  • I have an enormous amount of buttons taking off everywhere.

Now my questions....

  1. I haven't been taking very good care of the tank. Common sense tells me that this growth should not be happening. Thoughts?
  2. Is this common place? My buddy have a really hard time keeping mushrooms.

Its to the point that I'm going to have to start giving these things away since there are SO many

Thoughts?

I can't speak for Anemones, but yes, Buttons and Shrooms will take over your tank. They took over my last tank and I have no plans to add any of the three to my existing tank for that reason.

Sometimes 'not taking good care' is taking good care. :) You're allowing them to do whatever and I assume your water is a bit dirty.

That just means more nutrients for your morphs and anemones. :))

Well, if the anemones start to move across the tank then your mushrooms issue might sort itself out :)

Mushrooms can take up dissolved nutrients from the water. So dirty tanks high in nitrogenous waste, could help them grow faster. That's why you see people recommending others to feed heavy or remove skimmers in softie tanks.
