mushrooms

hi all
what is the best way to get loose mushrooms to attach to a rock?

A friend of mine has an overabundance of really nice blue mushrooms.
when they get too overcrowded they release from the rock, float around his tank and attach themselves somewhere else.

He is going to give me a handful of the loose ones, but i would like to get them to attach before putting them in my DT

Try placing them in a small glass bowl full of rubble on the bottom of your tank for awhile. With decent parameters and sufficient lighting they should attach in a week or so. You might have to cover the bowl with some netting to keep them from floating away though. GL.

Thanks cloak
Ill try it.

Make sure your alkalinity is good as well, that can make them detach or take much longer to attach than usual.

would it hurt to put these mushrooms in a small plastic container with an inch or so of regular run of the mill aquarium gravel in it, so that they can attach to the gravel. Then I can glue the gravel that they are attached to, to a rock from my DT.

I don't have access to dry crushed coral, and the aquarium gravels that the pet stores sell don't really say what they are made of.

I have them in a small bowl with rubble, but they seem to want to fall between the rubble rocks and keep ending up on the bottom of the bowl.

Does the rubble say it's for saltwater or reef tanks? Sometimes those have some kind of enamel on them that's no good...

It does not say anything bout reef or saltwater
Doesnt matter now anyway, The mushrooms turned into a gelotinous grey mush last night. :sad1:

Ive been able to use a stainless steel pin to secure them to the rock where I wanted them. Go close to the mouth, and literally pin it to the rockwork. Pull it out a week later and away you go. Hasn't failed yet. also works for other leathers like xenia and kenya tree.

I took out a deep Tupperware container and drilled holes into it. Placed some sand in the bottom. I then put one of the patches that are used to hold vortech wires on the top of my frag tank and ran a zip tie from the container to the patch and place it in there with either rubble rock or a frag disk.
